The sun hovered high above the endless sea, its golden rays reflecting off the gentle waves like scattered jewels. Luffy leaned over the side of their small boat, gazing at the horizon, his straw hat tilted slightly to shield his eyes from the glare. The steady rhythm of the ocean filled his ears—calming yet invigorating. Zoro rested with his arms folded, his back against the side of the boat, eyes closed, though his hand remained close to the hilt of one of his swords. His posture was relaxed, but Luffy knew better. Zoro was always ready.
Their supplies from Grandpa Haru's village kept their stomachs full, but both knew it wouldn't last forever. Food was only part of their concern. They needed direction—a navigator. Luffy, despite his endless optimism, understood his limits. He knew the dangers of the sea. Sailing blind across the unpredictable waters would only lead to disaster. The Grand Line was no ordinary place; even seasoned sailors had met their end there. Luffy had no intention of allowing his journey to the top to be cut short by something as simple as getting lost.
As if the sea itself had heard his thoughts, a distant shape emerged on the horizon. A small ship, barely afloat, rocked violently against the waves. Luffy squinted, trying to make out the details. The ship looked damaged, its sail torn and hull splintered. A lone figure stood aboard, waving desperately.
"Zoro, look!" Luffy called, pointing ahead.
Zoro cracked an eye open and followed Luffy's gaze. "Shipwrecked? Could be a trap," he muttered, his instincts from his bounty hunting days kicking in.
Luffy grinned. "Or it could be someone we need."
The boat creaked as they adjusted their course. As they drew closer, the figure became clearer—a young woman with bright orange hair and sharp eyes. She clutched a makeshift paddle, her clothes damp and torn. Despite her dire situation, her expression radiated determination. She wasn't giving up.
"Hey! Need help?" Luffy shouted, his voice carrying over the waves.
The woman's eyes lit up with relief. "Yes! Please, my ship is barely holding together!" Her voice was strong, but exhaustion lingered beneath it.
With some effort, they secured the small wrecked ship alongside their own, helping the woman aboard. She collapsed onto the boat, catching her breath. Up close, Luffy noticed the resilience in her gaze—this was someone who had endured hardship.
"Thank you. I thought I was done for," she said, offering a weak smile. "I'm Nami. I'm a navigator."
Luffy's eyes widened with excitement. He practically bounced on the spot. "A navigator? Perfect! Join my crew!"
Nami blinked, taken aback by his sudden enthusiasm. "Just like that? You don't even know me."
Zoro leaned against the boat's side, smirking. "That's how he is. Doesn't think much before asking people to join him."
Luffy grinned wider. "I know what I need. And I need you."
Nami stared at him for a moment, then sighed. There was something about this boy—his confidence, his lack of hesitation. It was both reckless and oddly inspiring. "Alright. For now. But I have my own goals. If they clash, I'll leave. No hard feelings."
Luffy extended his hand. "Deal."
Nami grasped his hand firmly. Despite her weary state, her grip was strong. There was strength behind her eyes—strength born from surviving in a harsh world.

The system message flickered in Luffy's mind, but he didn't need it to tell him what he already felt. His crew was growing. He was one step closer to his dream.
As their boat sailed onward, Nami took the helm with natural ease. Her eyes scanned the horizon with practiced precision. Even with their small, worn-out vessel, she made adjustments that smoothed their journey over the waves. The difference was noticeable almost immediately.
Zoro watched her briefly before closing his eyes again. "Guess we won't be getting lost every day now," he muttered.
Luffy laughed. "That's right! We're unstoppable now!"
The boat drifted further into the open sea. With each passing mile, their ragtag crew grew stronger. The Grand Line awaited—and together, they would face it all.
