The warm breeze carried the scent of fresh bread, grilled fish, and salty sea air as Luffy, Zoro, and Nami strolled into the heart of Raventon Island's market. The square bustled with villagers bartering for goods, children weaving between stalls with laughter echoing in their wake, and the occasional cheer from sailors enjoying their time ashore. The creak of windmills in the distance blended with the chatter, creating a harmony that masked any underlying tension. Merchants called out their wares, displaying fruits, fabrics, and trinkets, while fishermen unloaded their catches from the nearby docks.
Luffy's eyes sparkled as he spotted a stall displaying skewers of grilled meat, the savory aroma making his stomach growl audibly. His grin stretched wide as he licked his lips. "Food first!" he declared, already making his way toward the vendor with his arms outstretched.
"No, Luffy, supplies!" Nami snapped, grabbing his collar and pulling him back with practiced ease. "We need to fix the sail and get more drinking water. You can eat after we sort that out!" Her eyes flashed with authority, her hand gripping her purse tightly—she had no intention of letting their precious funds be squandered on Luffy's endless appetite.
Zoro chuckled as he watched the familiar routine unfold. "You two haven't changed," he muttered with amusement, his arms crossed, his swords tapping gently against his side as he walked.
Splitting up, they each took to their tasks. Nami made her way toward the fabric stalls, her eyes sharp as she assessed the quality of the sailcloth on display. She haggled with a merchant, her voice quick and firm, her experience ensuring she secured a fair deal. The vendor tried to overcharge her at first, but her stern gaze and knowledge of market prices soon had him lowering his asking price.
Zoro wandered over to the smithy, where the clang of hammer against metal filled the air. He inspected replacement parts for their boat, running his hand over the polished iron. He exchanged a few words with the blacksmith, who noticed Zoro's swords with curiosity. "Those blades..." the blacksmith began, but Zoro's expression was enough to cut the conversation short. The smith quickly understood the swordsman preferred silence over small talk.
Luffy, on the other hand, managed to sneak away from his responsibilities. He found himself back at the food stall, stuffing skewer after skewer into his mouth. The vendor watched in shock as Luffy devoured the meat with incredible speed. "Hey, you need to pay for those!" the vendor protested.
Before Luffy could argue, Nami appeared like a storm cloud, her eyes blazing with fury. "LUFFY!" she shouted, grabbing his ear and twisting it. "You can't just eat everything!"
"Ow! Ow! Sorry!" Luffy cried out, his mouth still full.
The vendor laughed nervously, accepting the payment from Nami, who sighed in frustration but couldn't hide a small smile. Their antics brought back a sense of normalcy after the darkness of the cursed island. For the first time in a while, danger did not seem to be breathing down their necks.
But appearances could be deceiving.
The cloaked figure from the docks was still watching. Moving through the crowd like a shadow, they observed the crew's every move. Occasionally, they exchanged subtle nods with other individuals lurking in the alleys—a silent network keeping track of the newcomers. Their eyes lingered longest on Luffy, who radiated an aura that made him stand out even among the bustling villagers.
As the sun began to lower in the sky, casting a warm orange glow over the market, the trio regrouped by a small stone fountain at the town square's center. The gentle trickling of water provided a soothing contrast to the day's hustle. Their supplies were restocked, and the boat repairs were arranged for completion by morning.
Luffy stretched his arms above his head, letting out a satisfied sigh. "This place isn't so bad. I could eat here forever."
Nami nodded but glanced over her shoulder. Her instincts, honed from years of surviving under Arlong and navigating dangerous seas, sensed something was off. "Let's not let our guard down just yet. Places like this are quiet until they're not."
Zoro rested his hand on the hilt of Wado Ichimonji, his gaze scanning the rooftops and alleyways. He knew better than to dismiss Nami's intuition. "We'll be ready," he assured, his voice low and resolute.
As dusk settled over Raventon Island, the once bright and cheerful market took on a different tone. Shadows stretched longer, and the eyes watching them had not left. The cloaked figure slipped back into the alleys, but the feeling of being observed lingered.
Trouble was brewing beneath the island's peaceful surface—and the Straw Hat crew was right in its path.
