Chapter 23

Amelia knew Lena well enough to recognize that look—the one that meant she was plotting something.

"Lena, no," Amelia said, not even giving her a chance.

Lena grinned. "Yes."

"I swear, if you try anything, I will—"

"Relax," Lena said, tossing an arm around Amelia's shoulders. "I would never interfere with your love life."

"You are literally incapable of not interfering."

Lena ignored that and pulled out her phone. "So, do you and Oliver have plans after school?"

Amelia eyed her suspiciously. "No… why?"

"Oh, no reason," Lena said with the worst attempt at nonchalance Amelia had ever seen.

"You're a terrible liar."

Lena winked. "Thank you."

Later That Day – The Setup

Amelia should have known something was up when Lena dragged her to the café after school with zero explanation.

"Why are we here?" Amelia asked.

"Just felt like getting something sweet," Lena said innocently.

Which was exactly when Oliver walked in.

Amelia froze.

Oliver blinked. "Amelia?"

She turned to Lena, eyes narrowing. "You did this on purpose."

Lena put a hand over her heart. "How dare you accuse me of such manipulation?"

Oliver glanced between them. "Am I… interrupting something?"

Lena beamed. "Nope! You two should sit together."

Amelia shot her a death glare.

Lena shot her a you're welcome look.

Oliver, bless him, just looked confused. "Uh… sure?"

Amelia sighed in defeat and sat down. Oliver followed suit.

Lena clapped her hands together. "Great! Have fun, you two. Bye!"

And with that, she bolted, leaving Amelia alone with Oliver.

The Accidental Date

Amelia stared at her untouched drink. "This isn't a date."

Oliver chuckled. "I mean… it kind of feels like one."

She groaned. "Don't encourage her."

Oliver smirked. "She really wants us to date, huh?"

Amelia scoffed. "She just likes meddling in my life."

Oliver raised an eyebrow. "And if we did date?"

Her heart skipped a beat. She forced a laugh. "You don't want to date me. I'm a mess."

Oliver tilted his head. "I like messes."

That definitely wasn't fair.

She quickly took a sip of her drink to avoid answering.

Oliver leaned back, watching her. "You get really flustered around me lately."

"I do not," she said way too quickly.

He grinned. "You totally do."

Amelia buried her face in her hands. "This is a nightmare."

Oliver just laughed. "You're cute when you panic."

She peeked at him between her fingers. "That's not helping."

He smirked. "I know."

Amelia groaned again.

This was all Lena's fault.
