Chasing Uncertainty

For once, she longed to be just a regular woman, spending time by herself on the beach, soaking up the sun before the inevitable winter arrived. The summer had been busy, leaving her little time to relax and enjoy herself. Looking back, she wished she had made time for herself earlier. After all, how was she supposed to meet her mate if she didn't put herself out At the mention of his work, a flicker of something darker crossed his expression, but it was gone in an instant, replaced by that same seductive smile. After meeting Nat, Nadia returned to her place and took a quick shower. It was a rare sunny day, and though she had a mountain of tasks waiting for her, she decided to take a break. She hadn't had a day off in a while, and it was about time she gave herself some space to breathe.

there? The Moon Goddess had promised that all her desires would be fulfilled, yet there was something about it that unsettled her. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but there seemed to be a catch that she hadn't noticed.

Despite her excitement about meeting her mate, anxiety gnawed at her. What if he turned out to be nothing like she had imagined? The thought was unsettling, but for now, she was determined to stay positive. There was no point in worrying herself sick; she had already spent enough time doing that after her second lover left her. She had spent an entire year mourning the end of that relationship, and now she was focused on moving forward, staying optimistic about what the future held.

That's why today, she was choosing to take a break. She wanted to enjoy the last sunny days of summer and embrace some much-needed time for herself. It wasn't in her nature to sit idle, but today, she decided to postpone everything and simply be present in the moment. The world could wait.

After applying some light makeup and sunscreen, she grabbed her surfboard and headed to the beach, about twenty minutes from her home. As she parked and walked toward the sand, a smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. The beach was relatively quiet today, which made it even better. She set up her towel in a peaceful spot and stretched out in the sun, relishing the perfect balance of warmth and the gentle breeze. It was exactly what she needed.

She cracked open a beer and scanned the waves, though there weren't many today. Despite the calm water, she wasn't in a hurry to leave her ideal spot. She soaked up the surroundings, letting her thoughts wander and eventually drifting off to sleep.

The peaceful moment didn't last long. She awoke abruptly, feeling a shadow loom over her. Blinking, she opened her eyes to find a man staring at her with piercing grey eyes. His gaze was intense, and before she could respond, he greeted her with a smile that oozed confidence.

"Hey," he said, his voice smooth and warm. Nadia shot him a glare, slightly irritated at being interrupted, but his charming smile made her pause. His flirty grin seemed familiar, almost playful.

"Are you from here?" he asked, his eyes scanning her face.

She didn't answer immediately, instead giving him a once-over. He was definitely easy on the eyes, with a strong, athletic build that caught her attention. Maybe he was worth a little conversation after all.

"You're new here," she remarked coolly.

His smile widened, revealing a deep dimple on his left cheek, and the resemblance to someone she knew,Zane, didn't escape her. He had that effortless, good looks charm that was hard to resist.

"Yeah, I'm here for a couple of days. What about you?" he asked, still holding her gaze.

"It's a work trip," she answered dismissively, though her curiosity about him was starting to grow. He shifted on his feet, clearly a little impatient at her standoffishness, but she didn't mind. It added to the mystery.

"Where are you from?" she asked, her tone casual.

"North," he shrugged, clearly trying to stay cool, though his eyes never left her body.

"Are you a local?" he inquired, though his focus was mostly on her form rather than the question itself.

"Yes," she replied with a shrug. "Wanna go around the town?" she offered, deciding to take the leap. She needed a break, and he seemed like someone she could have some fun with while she waited for fate to deliver her mate.

"That's what I was talking about," he said with another suggestive grin.

He extended his hand toward her. "I'm Jaxon."

Nadia looked at his hand, weighing the decision for a moment before accepting it, standing up from her towel. It was reckless, but it felt good. She could feel a spark of excitement building inside her—after all, who needed a plan when the day was this perfect?

"I'm Nadia," she said, a mischievous smile tugging at her lips.

"You're so beautiful, Nadia," he said, his eyes sweeping over her body in a way that made her skin tingle.

"Thanks, I get that a lot," she laughed, her confidence growing. "Now, what would you like to do?" she asked, testing the waters further.

He shrugged, a casual look on his face. "I'm down for anything."

She tilted her head, studying him for a moment. "Time limits?" she asked, knowing she didn't have all day.

"I have a meeting at seven tonight," he replied, his voice smooth as silk.

Her curiosity piqued, Nadia raised an eyebrow. "Who do you work for?"

"Why don't we get going, sweetheart?" he murmured, stepping closer to her and brushing the back of his knuckles against her jaw. "I want to make every minute count with you."

Nadia laughed softly. "I can't wait to see what you have in store for me,Jaxon," she whispered, her fingers tracing the outlines of his toned abs. She felt him take in a sharp breath, his body stiffening under her touch.

"Let's go then," he growled, grabbing her things and leading her away from the beach.

For once, Nadia wasn't thinking about her mate or the looming uncertainties. She was living in the moment, ready to see where this spontaneous adventure would take her.
