What have I done

"Your... admiration is unexpected," Kira said, her voice a low purr. "But not unwelcome."

Lyria groaned, slapping her hand against her forehead. "Seriously, Jaden?"

"What? It's not my fault I appreciate fine craftsmanship when I see it," I said, trying to recover from my embarrassment. "I've never seen elf boobs before. They're like... works of art."

Kira's smirk grew into a full-blown smile, revealing a set of perfectly white teeth. "Indeed," she said. "But it's been a long time since anyone has appreciated me for anything other than my skills with a blade."

The tension in the air lightened a bit, and I felt a strange sense of camaraderie with the elf. Sure, she could probably split me in two without breaking a sweat, but at least she had a sense of humor.

"Well, if it's appreciation you're after," I said, grinning back at her, "I've got enough for everyone."

Her smile grew wider, and she nodded. "Good," she said. "Because you're going to need every bit of that charm to survive what I have planned for you."

My heart skipped a beat. "Death traps?" I squeaked, the image of a dungeon filled with spikes and swinging pendulums flashing before my eyes.

"No, not quite," she said, amusement dancing in her gaze. "But I will push you to your limits. And perhaps... beyond."

With that, she turned and disappeared into the shadows of her home. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing thoughts. "Well," I said, turning to Lyria, "I guess it's time to find out what kind of hellish training montage I've gotten myself into."
