Chapter 40: Pieces of a Forgotten Truth

The air outside the chamber felt heavier as Satya and Saanvi hurried out of the underground passage, their minds racing. Devraj Rathore's warning echoed in their heads.

"Forget Veer. Forget Meera. And never return."

But walking away wasn't an option.

"We need to find out what he knows," Satya said, determination hardening his voice. "He's hiding something—something about Veer's death and Meera's disappearance."

Saanvi nodded. "If he's a Rathore descendant, he might have access to family records. There must be something in the old estate or archives."

Their next move was clear: They had to follow Devraj.

A Fateful Encounter

Tracking down Devraj wasn't easy. He was a man who preferred to remain in the shadows. Satya spent the next few days asking around, gathering information from locals and historians, but Devraj was elusive.

Finally, a lead surfaced—an old library owned by the Rathore family.

Saanvi and Satya found themselves standing in front of an ancient building, its wooden doors adorned with faded carvings. Inside, the scent of old parchment filled the air. The librarian, an elderly man, watched them carefully.

"We're looking for records on the Rathore family history," Satya said, keeping his tone steady.

The man hesitated before pointing toward the farthest section. "The oldest records are there. But be careful—some histories are meant to be left alone."

They exchanged a glance before stepping toward the dusty shelves.

A Hidden Truth

Saanvi ran her fingers across the leather-bound journals, carefully pulling out a few that seemed relevant. Satya flipped through them, scanning for any mention of Veer or Meera.

Then, he found it.

A fragile, yellowed page—an old family letter.

His breath caught as he read aloud:

"The artist was dealt with. The girl will remain silent. She knows the cost of defiance."

Saanvi's heart pounded. "This means… Veer's death wasn't an accident."

Satya's jaw clenched. "And Meera… they silenced her."

But before they could process it further, a voice interrupted them.

"You shouldn't be here."

They turned to see Devraj standing in the doorway, his face unreadable.

Satya tightened his grip on the paper. "Then tell us the truth."

Devraj sighed, stepping closer. "You really want to know what happened?"

Saanvi and Satya exchanged a glance before nodding.

Devraj exhaled deeply. "Then listen carefully—because the past isn't as romantic as you think."

And as he began to speak, the truth of Veer's death and Meera's fate started to unravel.
