Wealthy and arrogant

Wan Shiqiang had his eyes opened today.

He thought Lu Han, surrounded by a dozen thugs, would surely suffer a great loss. However, Lu Han displayed his prowess, effortlessly taking them all down in less than two minutes without a scratch.

It was a pure demonstration of overwhelming power.

As for Ling Mo kneeling and barking like a dog, Wan Shiqiang merely watched with a detached curiosity. Since Lu Ran hadn't let him leave, he stayed put, content to be an onlooker.

But he had to admit, this was one juicy spectacle.

While reveling in the drama, Wan Shiqiang's face fell when he saw Lu Han approaching.

He forced a laugh, "Young Master Lu, could you please tell me what I've done wrong besides working for Chu Ruoyan?"

"Oh, you misunderstand."

Lu Han patted Wan Shiqiang's shoulder, "I need you to do something for me. Of course, there will be rewards if you succeed. Let's find a quiet place to discuss it."

Uh...

Wan Shiqiang almost choked. So, after all that anxiety, it turned out he hadn't offended Young Master Lu but was needed for a task?

Why didn't he say so earlier!

"There's a teahouse nearby. Shall we go there, Young Master Lu?"

Wan Shiqiang's smile was ingratiating. Unexpectedly, this situation might turn into a golden opportunity. A super client like Lu Han could bring immense wealth.

Now, it was up to him to seize this opportunity.

Though he didn't know the specifics of what Lu Han wanted, Wan Shiqiang was already eager to get started.

By now, there wasn't much left to see outside Nightfall Bar.

Realizing Lu Han wouldn't easily let him off, Ling Mo scrambled into his car the moment Lu Han approached Wan Shiqiang, abandoning even his unconscious companions.

Ling Mo was now utterly lost, only wanting to seek advice from his father.

"Lu Han."

Just as Lu Han and Wan Shiqiang were about to leave, Chu Ruoyan softly called out. Seeing him turn around, she cautiously said, "If the police come looking for you, I'm willing to testify for you."

"We'll see," Lu Han replied indifferently, then turned away.

Chu Ruoyan stared at Lu Han's retreating figure, her heart filled with mixed emotions.

Giving up on this man was impossible. But now, winning him back seemed as difficult as climbing to the sky. Even if she succeeded, he might still be bound by family obligations.

"It doesn't matter. When Lu Han pursued me, he was so sincere. Now it's my turn to pursue him. These difficulties are nothing."

Chu Ruoyan tried to encourage herself. "Making mistakes deserves punishment. At worst, I can be his mistress."

With this mindset, she felt confident that as long as she wasn't greedy, winning back Lu Han was possible.

However, glancing at the shattered glass from Lu Han's elbow, her confidence wavered.

After a long silence, she silently added, "If all else fails, being friends with benefits is also an option."

...

The teahouse Wan Shiqiang mentioned wasn't far, just about five hundred meters from Nightfall Bar, a few minutes' walk.

The environment inside was quite pleasant, not as luxurious as Wutong Elegant Residence, but it offered a tranquil retreat amidst the bustling bars—a unique idea indeed.

Wan Shiqiang found a private room. Once the server brought the tea, he put on a friendly smile, "Young Master Lu, whatever you need, just tell me."

Lu Han asked unexpectedly, "How much did Chu Ruoyan pay you to investigate me?"

"An advance of fifty thousand yuan, and another fifty thousand if she's satisfied with the results."

Wan Shiqiang answered honestly, feeling a bit regretful. Having been caught red-handed and betrayed his employer, he knew the remaining fifty thousand was out of reach.

Still, adhering to professional ethics, he decided to inform Chu Ruoyan of everything he had learned.

"Was she generous, or were your fees high?" Lu Han casually inquired, purely out of curiosity.

Wan Shiqiang straightened up, "Young Master Lu, among all private detectives in Jiangcheng, I can confidently say no one is better than me."

His words were blunt but true.

Because of his expertise, his fees naturally were higher.

"I believe you," Lu Han nodded. Finding out his identity as the heir of the Lu family within a few days spoke volumes.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have sought out Wan Shiqiang.

"Now, I need you to investigate someone."

Lu Han showed a photo on his phone, "This man is Chen Liqiang. He died in a car accident over a decade ago. I want to know who he interacted with, especially financially. Did anyone suddenly give him a large sum of money?"

He had begun investigating his mother's death.

Chen Liqiang was the truck driver involved in the accident, primarily responsible according to the traffic police report. Unfortunately, he also died in the crash, leaving it unclear whether it was an accident or intentional.

"A decade ago?" Wan Shiqiang grimaced. The time frame made it challenging, especially since surveillance cameras weren't as widespread back then.

Lu Han gave him a sidelong glance, "Cut the crap. Can you take the job or not?"

"I can, of course, I can!"

Wan Shiqiang smiled awkwardly, "But regarding the price—"

"How about one million?"

Before Wan Shiqiang could finish, Lu Han named his price.

"That's more than enough!" Wan Shiqiang eagerly nodded. His initial expectation was fifty thousand, but Lu Han doubled it.

He couldn't help but admire Lu Han's generosity.

"Deal then."

Lu Han sipped his tea, lowering his eyelids, "I'll pay forty million upfront. If you can solve the case within six months, the remaining sixty million will be paid in full."

"I understand it's tough, so I'm giving you ample time. For each month beyond that, ten million will be deducted from the final payment."

"If you fail to provide any results within a year, don't blame me for being ruthless. You won't get the remaining payment and must return the deposit."

"So, Wan Shiqiang, are you still up for it?"

Wan Shiqiang's expression was conflicted but quickly resolved.

"Why not? Roll the dice, maybe turn a bicycle into a motorcycle!"

He smiled, "Besides, I have confidence in myself. I won't disappoint you, Young Master Lu."

"I'll await your good news."

Lu Han's tone was calm but chilling, "But if you dare to leak a single word about this matter, you'll learn what it means to live in misery."

Wan Shiqiang instantly froze in fear.

As they left the teahouse, Lu Han gazed at Wan Shiqiang's departing figure, deep in thought.

If this man were suddenly silenced or went missing, would it prove his mother's death was more than an accident?

Now the bait was set; it was time to see if anyone would take it.
