Disabled

In this world, apart from a few highly trained professionals like pilots or skydivers, most people, even those who frequently engage in activities like bungee jumping, would instinctively scream and panic when falling from a great height.

Lu Ming was no exception. The sensation of weightlessness caused him to scream uncontrollably. Then came an indescribable pain, as if he had been hit by a speeding truck. His vision went black, and he passed out instantly.

Chanson Hotel is located in a bustling area, so despite Lu Han choosing a relatively secluded spot, Lu Ming's screams still attracted the attention of the security guards.

Upon realizing who had fallen, the guards were nearly paralyzed with shock and quickly called their supervisor via walkie-talkie.

Panic ensued. No one dared to move Lu Ming, unsure of his condition. Moving him might make things worse. So, they called for emergency medical services (120).

Fortunately, there was a hospital less than 500 meters away. An ambulance soon arrived, and the medical team placed Lu Ming on a stretcher and rushed him to the hospital.

Because Su Qingli was drunk, Su Qiuchao and Xie Qingwan had already left with their daughter when Lu Zhensheng departed earlier. Thus, when Lu Han returned to the banquet hall, only Lu Xue remained.

"Brother, you didn't throw Lu Ming off, did you?"

Given the severity of the incident, Lu Xue was already aware of what happened. Seeing her brother call Lu Ming outside made her feel uneasy.

"Don't worry, he won't die."

With no one else around, Lu Han essentially admitted it. He explained calmly, "I threw him feet-first."

"And I checked; the ground below is sandy."

"At worst, Lu Ming will have some fractures and internal injuries."

Lu Han wanted to kill Lu Ming outright but needed to consider Lu Zhensheng's feelings. Without concrete evidence linking the mistress to their mother's death, he couldn't act rashly.

Even if he acted, he wouldn't leave obvious traces. However, not killing Lu Ming immediately didn't mean letting him get away with anything. Today's lesson was about reciprocity—Lu Ming needed to pay for spoiling the engagement banquet.

"If Dad asks or if Lu Ming wakes up and calls the police, I'll say I did it."

Lu Xue bit her lip, determined. "I have a motive; he tried to take advantage of me, and I accidentally pushed him while defending myself."

Her motive was based on Lu Ming's inappropriate advances toward her, which could serve as a good excuse.

However, this would expose the family scandal. But for her brother, Lu Xue was willing to take that risk.

"Don't be silly. I did it; I can't let you take the blame."

Lu Han ruffled Lu Xue's hair, smiling. "Besides, your story wouldn't hold up under scrutiny. They'd check the surveillance footage and see you weren't there."

"But there really are no cameras where I threw him."

"I'll just insist he fell because he was drunk and lost his balance."

Though confident, they still needed to cover their tracks. So, the siblings headed to the hospital together.

The security captain drove them since both siblings had been drinking. It was his first time driving such a luxurious car, making him nervous throughout the journey.

The operating room lights were still on when Lu Han and Lu Xue arrived. Soon after, Lu Zhensheng and Uncle Sen arrived, having been notified.

"What happened?"

Lu Zhensheng assumed someone else had attacked Lu Ming or that it was an accident, causing him concern.

"Wait for Lu Ming to tell you himself."

Lu Han remained expressionless. While Lu Zhensheng cared for both sons, seeing him worry about Lu Ming made Lu Han uncomfortable.

Lu Zhensheng hesitated, sensing a connection to Lu Han but unsure how to proceed.

They waited for over four hours until evening when the operating room lights finally turned off. As the doctor emerged, Lu Zhensheng hurried forward.

"Doctor, how is my son?"

"The surgery was successful."

The doctor removed his mask, visibly exhausted but professional. "He has multiple fractures in his left foot, a cracked ankle, and various fractures in his left leg. His right foot also has a fracture, and his right tibia is broken."

"He also suffered seven broken ribs, four on the left side and three on the right, with minor bleeding in the spleen."

"Oh, and a mild concussion, but that's not serious."

Having practiced medicine for decades, the doctor had seen worse cases, speaking calmly.

But hearing this, Lu Zhensheng and Uncle Sen, including Lu Xue, all gasped in unison.

Lu Ming survived, but his legs... would they ever be the same?

Lu Zhensheng asked urgently, "Doctor, will he be disabled?"

"Most likely."

The doctor cautiously added, "But with proper rehabilitation, there's hope."

Lu Zhensheng was silent for a long moment before asking, "Can I see him now?"

"He needs more observation inside, then he'll be moved to a regular ward."

The doctor left promptly.

Around seven in the evening, Lu Ming woke up in the ward. The anesthesia hadn't fully worn off, but any slight movement caused excruciating pain.

Seeing Lu Han leaning against the wall nearby, Lu Ming was terrified. Who would casually throw someone off a building? He truly thought Lu Han was insane!

"Calm down. You're in the hospital, and I won't harm you here."

Lu Han spoke calmly, "But if you say anything reckless, I can't guarantee what I might do."

Lu Ming's face darkened. In this room, without Chen Shu or Li Dongsheng, he was defenseless. Swallowing his anger, he had no choice.

"You win, Lu Han!"

Lu Ming admitted his fear. The near-death experience left him shaken.

"How are you feeling, Lu Ming?"

Lu Zhensheng entered, having just consulted doctors about rehabilitation options and contacted renowned experts through his connections. Seeing Lu Ming awake, he quickly sat beside him.

"I'm fine, Dad. Sorry for worrying you."

Lu Ming forced a smile, unaware of his true condition due to being unconscious.

Lu Zhensheng took a deep breath and asked sternly, "What exactly happened? Why did you fall from the building?"

"Uh... I was drunk and lost my balance, so I fell."

Lu Ming decided to play it safe, though inwardly furious.

Lu Han, we'll settle this later!
