"Evening at the gala, I know most of the guests. Besides, Sapphire's in a wheelchair. Are you sure you want her to accompany you?"
"Honey, everyone's attention will be on her legs. Mr. Gevano will be there too. If he finds out you deceived him back then for his investment, it'll tarnish your reputation, no matter how powerful you are now."
Xanthe spoke while gently caressing Fitch's shoulders.
Fitch was about to go home to pick me up when Xanthe suddenly appeared in evening wear, which inexplicably irritated him.
"Don't call me 'honey' in private anymore."
Xanthe's hand froze, her voice taking on a pitiable, tearful tone:
"I've played the role of your wife for four years. We're a loving couple in public, but behind closed doors, it's all for show. Can't I even call you 'honey' anymore?"
Fitch pinched the bridge of his nose: "You can come with me to the gala tonight, alright?"
Xanthe immediately perked up: "I'll go touch up my makeup."
