Making a Plan

"Hmm… So, my stats and levels have reverted back to level 1…"

Looking over her new class, skills, abilities and stats, Evelyn gently tapped the table.

"Seeing as I am in my old apartment, this should be before I originally awakened as I had moved back with my parents the same day at that time…"

Tapping her finger on the table once more, Evelyn tried to make sense of the situation.

"First I should find my phone and figure out the date". She then went back into her bedroom and saw it lying on the dresser, charging.

Picking up her phone, she saw that she had indeed gone back to the past.

"Seems this is three years before I died… I shouldn't have awakened before a year from now… So, I guess I have a chance of making some different choices from last time. I don't want to live life the same way I did before…"

At this time, before going back, she had been working every day to make a living through freelance translating work, so she hadn't really had time to think of anything else.

She had been a recluse, staying home most of the day, with the exceptions of when she had to buy groceries and other necessities.

"I already had my revenge against Samuel when I healed the monster, so I guess that is done… Since I haven't even met him in this life, it doesn't really make sense to continue planning against him."

Walking around in her apartment, she thought about what she should do to change her life.

"I could go into the tower now and make a living that way. Since I'm a healer, I should be able to join a team even if I am a bit bothersome -"

Wait, had she actually been bothersome? She tried to look back on her memories. She had always been treated as a bother, but was she really?

She had had almost no contact with anyone except her family and the servants at their mansion… But could she really trust the way they treated her as the truth?

Evelyn was by no means a naive person; she had simply kept up with her fake reality to protect herself. Had she been brave enough to accept the reality where she was unwanted, she could have watched them with an objective eye.

"I was never the problem… I was not wilful or obstinate, and I always did what those around me asked…"

Trying to think objectively at her situation, Evelyn was able to see many things she hadn't been able to before.

The mistreatment her family had put her through, how their attitudes had reflected in how the servants treated her and how she had simply accepted it all…

"I should change."

Having arrived at such a conclusion, she quickly found a notebook and a pen and started writing.

"I should make a plan for how to move forward. What to do, what to avoid…"

Contemplating her choices she quickly jotted down some points. She would start climbing the tower, using the knowledge from her past life.

Even if she had never actually climbed the tower herself, having used a teleporting stone to get to the boss-monsters floor when she joined the attack force, the news would always comment on new monster and their characteristics.

The news shown on tv, in the newspaper and online would daily comments on how best to clear a floor in the tower, what monsters one would meet and their attacks and weaknesses.

Even if she couldn't remember everything that had been said, she did have a general understanding of the tower. She had also prepared extra when it was decided that she would be sent there, looking over information on various monsters and their characteristics.

"The first few floors only compromise of different varieties of slimes, low level monsters meant to help tower climbers get used to their abilities… They have a low attack rate and at least at the first floor, they usually don't attack climbers. They should be good practise to level up my abilities as well. As of now, I don't really think I have any abilities that can be considered meant for attack. I do have the ability steal life force, but since I lack proficiency and experience with it, I don't really know how it would work when I actually use it."

All the abilities of awakeners were like this, as far as she knew. The system would only give a short description, but the finer details would be up to each ability holder to figure out for themselves. Whether the ability was short or long range, how many times it could be used, what the drainage after using it felt like, it was all up to the awakener to find out.

"As for a more secure way to attack the monsters, it might be good to find a companion. Some of the more well-known hunters from before I went back should be starting out now. If I could team up with some of them, my chances of survival might increase."

"And then finally; my family. I don't really want to focus on revenge… The desire was quite strong when I was dying, but now… I don't really want to have anything to do with them unless it is necessary…"

So, having made some sort of a plan, she decided to implement it at once before her courage left her.

"I will start climbing the tower, try to find some companions, level up as much as I can and steer clear of my family. As for revenge, I have no need for such things."
