Zavier swallowed. "I talked to Ace. He didn't say no."
Zara's lips parted, but no words came out.
Her hands dropped to her sides. The betrayal stung deeper than she expected.
"How could you, Zavier?" she snapped.
Zavier tried to move closer, but Zara stepped back, holding up a hand to stop him.
"You know," she said, voice trembling, "I think I finally understand why Kaka didn't leave this to you." A hollow laugh escaped her lips. "Because you're careless, rash, and so damn greedy."
"Zara!" Zavier's voice rose. "Watch your tone! I'm still your older brother."
"And still the most stupid," she shot back without hesitation. "Zane would never pull something this reckless."
She turned away, resting her forehead against the door. "This is the second time you've broken my trust," she whispered, her voice cracking. "I don't even know if I can bring myself to trust you again."
"Zara, please, hear me out."
