Caleb pulled out his phone and played a video. It showed Abigail entering the conference room, leaving , and returning. However, the footage missed her entering the washroom.
Abigail's confusion deepened. "So what? Where did I steal the file?"
Caleb's smile was laced with mockery. "Miss, don't act so innocent. It won't work on me."
As Caleb stepped forward, Abigail stood her ground, blocking his path.
"MD, please explain. The receptionist guided me to the conference room. Yes, I left, but only to use the washroom. I didn't enter any other room," Abigail explained sincerely.
Caleb's expression remained unconvinced. "If I were you, I'd run away when someone lets it slide. Don't waste your energy here. I don't have time for this explaining game."
Abigail raised an eyebrow. "If that room is so important, why doesn't it have a CCTV?"
Caleb shrugged. "The room is under construction, so it doesn't have CCTV coverage yet."
Abigail found the explanation amusing. "Does that makes sense? why was an important file left in that room?"
Caleb's expression turned serious. "That was an employee's mistake. But no one knew the file was in that room, and you were the only one around. Of course, there is a fault in part also. That is the reason why we're letting it slide this time. Consider yourself lucky."
With that, Caleb pushed past Abigail and got into his car. Abigail refused to give up.
"Is it wrong to jump to conclusions? Why don't you ask the receptionist—"
Her words were lost as the black car sped away, leaving Abigail standing alone.
The next day, Abigail waited anxiously for Caleb, hoping to finally get an explanation. However, her efforts were in vain as Caleb continued to ignore her, refusing to give her a chance to clear her name.
Caleb's meeting was interrupted by a phone call informing him that his car had been scrapped accidentally. Rushing out in confusion, he was confronted by Abigail waiting for him.
Caleb's expression darkened. "Did you make that prank call?" he accused, trying to brush past her.
Abigail stood firm. "I'm sorry, but I think this was the only way to get your attention."
Caleb's anger flared. "Why would I want to see you? Is this some kind of twisted game to you?"
Abigail's expression remained sincere. "I want to explain myself. I'm really innocent. I went to the washroom and returned quickly."
Caleb's gaze searched for any sign of deception, but Abigail's words seemed genuine.
"Okay, fine," Caleb said. "Who ordered you? Let's start from there."
Abigail shook her head. "No one ordered me. I'm telling you the truth. I was there because the receptionist guided me. The room is restricted to certain employees, and I'm just a newcomer. How could I have accessed it?"
Caleb's eyes narrowed. "How can you prove you went to the washroom? There was no one around except you."
Abigail countered, "Then why is there no video of me entering the washroom?"
Caleb brushed her off. "Obviously, that area wasn't covered by CCTV."
Abigail tried to stop him again, but Caleb's words halted her.
"If you try anything childish, I'll call the police," he warned, his tone firm and authoritative.
Abigail felt tears prick at her eyes as she watched Caleb walk away. From that day on, she gave up trying to explain herself to him, focusing instead on her shop and delivering products.
While on a delivery, Abigail spotted Caleb entering a café. Her emotions got the better of her, and she followed him inside.
A woman thanked Caleb, saying, "Thank you for understanding. I'll tell my mom." Caleb smiled reassuringly.
Caleb looked at Abigail with a mixture of confusion and curiosity as she approached their table. However, he didn't seem entirely surprised by Abigail's dramatic entrance.
"Is that why you asked me to break up with you?" Abigail asked, her voice laced with emotion.
Caleb's gaze shifted between Abigail and the woman, confusion etched on his face. Before Abigail could continue, Caleb grasped her waist and pulled her out of the café.
Abigail struggled to keep up with Caleb's rapid pace. "What are you doing? It hurts!" she protested, trying to pull her hand free.
Caleb stopped and turned to face her. "What are you doing? Are you stalking me?"
"Are you even familiar with the concept of stalking?" Abigail sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. "Why on earth would I waste my time stalking someone like you?"
Caleb's frustration was palpable as he asked, his voice tinged with exasperation, "Are you interested in me?"
Abigail's eyes widened in mock surprise. "Wow, wow... Does it look like I'm interested in you?"
Caleb's expression remained skeptical. "Is that why you're always showing up around me?"
Abigail adjusted her bag, a hint of amusement dancing on her lips. "This is bad. You should see a doctor."
Caleb's brows furrowed. "A doctor?"
Abigail chuckled. "Yes, you seem to suffer from an incurable disease – late-stage narcissism."
Her laughter lingered as she added, "There's no medication for that."
Caleb snapped, "I think you need to take a trip to the police station."
Abigail smirked, "Why would I?"
Caleb reached for his phone, and continued, "I'll report to the police station as a professional gold digger."
"Like it scares me. Sure, go ahead," Abigail said boldly.
Just then, the girl Caleb was with at the café intervened, "Excuse me!"
Abigail cleared her throat and glanced at Caleb. The girl explained, "I'm sorry, Miss. We just met because of our parents. I have my boyfriend. You don't have to be mad at Caleb."
Abigail quickly interjected, "No, it's not like that. Actually, I was—"
But Caleb cut her off, "Thank you, Lily. Good luck," as he casually put his arm around Abigail's shoulder, presenting them as a couple.
Abigail's eyes widened in surprise, and she instinctively tried to brush Caleb's arm off her shoulder, but Caleb didn't budge.
Lily wished them well, "Thank you. Good luck, you two."
Abigail was flustered. As soon as Lily disappeared, Abigail pushed Caleb's arm away. "What are you doing?"
Caleb shrugged nonchalantly, "You want to play my girlfriend, so I let you play."
Abigail sighed, "Seriously, the lady will get the wrong idea."
Caleb eyed her, "Please, Miss, don't ever show up in front of me again."
Abigail returned his gaze, "I'll never want to see you again." She shot Caleb a final, piercing glance before turning on her heel and walking away. Caleb watched her go, before letting out a deep, exhausted breath.
