Chapter 8: The Escape
The train rattled through the darkness, the hum of its wheels deafening as Kaito's mind raced. He and his friends were trapped, caught in an endless cycle of fear and confusion. But amidst the hopelessness, a glimmer of clarity flickered in Kaito's mind. The answer had always been there, hidden in the depths of his memory.
"The key," Kaito murmured. His fingers tightened around the glowing key that still rested in his pocket. He had thought it was just an object of power, but now, he realized it was more. The key wasn't to unlock a door—it was to unlock their escape.
Yuki and Haru looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?" Yuki asked, her voice trembling.
Kaito stood, his heart pounding. "We've been thinking about this all wrong. This isn't just a train. It's a prison... but we have the means to leave. The key—it's meant to break the cycle."
With no time to lose, Kaito stood in front of the train's main control panel. His fingers hovered over the buttons, but before he could press them, the key in his pocket pulsed with an intense light. The entire train seemed to shake, the air around them vibrating with energy.
Without a word, Kaito inserted the key into a hidden slot on the panel. The train screeched, then stopped. Silence.
The doors opened.
For the first time, they saw a world beyond the mist—a world that was bright, alive, and free.
They stepped off the train, the curse broken, the nightmare over. They had escaped.
Kaito, Haru, and Yuki stumbled off the train, their hearts pounding as they stepped onto the platform. The familiar sounds of Tokyo Station surrounded them—people hustling, trains whizzing by. It felt surreal, like they had just woken from a nightmare. They were finally home. Safe. Free.
