Chapter 10 – "A Line Crossed"

Eko Atlantic – The Decision

Joshua stared at the gun on the ground. The weight of the moment pressed on his chest.

The man in front of him, bound and gagged, whimpered. Fear in his eyes. Begging without words.

The Broker took a slow drag of his cigar. "Tick-tock, Joshua. This is the moment. You either prove you're ready for this world… or you walk away."

Adisa crossed his arms. The other men watched in silence.

Joshua's mind raced. This was a test. A trap. A defining moment.

He crouched, picked up the gun. It felt heavier than he expected. His hands tightened around it.

Could he do this?

Could he kill?

Memories of Home – A Ghost from the Past

A flash of memory hit him.

His mother.

Years ago, when he was just a boy. The day they lost everything.

The landlord had come with his men, tossing their belongings onto the street.

His mother pleaded. "Please, just a little more time."

The landlord laughed. "No money, no house."

Joshua watched his mother cry. Felt the helplessness of that moment.

He swore back then: Never again.

Never again would he be powerless.

Never again would he beg.

The Shot That Changes Everything

Joshua's grip tightened on the gun.

He raised it.

The man trembled, shaking his head desperately.

His pulse pounded in his ears. The world faded.

Just him. The gun. And the choice.

BANG!

Silence.

Smoke curled from the barrel.

The body slumped to the ground.

Joshua felt… nothing.

The Broker exhaled, impressed. "Now that… that is power."

He clapped slowly. "Welcome to the game."

A New Order – The Rise Begins

Joshua wiped his hands, forcing down the unease in his stomach.

Adisa patted his shoulder. "No turning back now, bro."

Joshua didn't respond.

He knew it. Something inside him had shifted.

The Broker handed him a new phone. "From now on, you'll get calls. Opportunities. Real ones. You're no longer just some student trying to make it."

His eyes gleamed. "You're someone people will fear."

Joshua pocketed the phone. He wasn't afraid of fear.

He was ready for what came next.

A Night with Amara – The Rift Begins

Later that night, Joshua met Amara again. She could tell something was different.

"Josh… what happened?"

He shook his head. "Nothing you need to worry about."

She frowned. "You're not telling me something."

He kissed her—long, deep. Trying to push away the night's events.

She kissed back but pulled away, eyes searching his.

"Don't shut me out," she whispered.

But Joshua already had.

Because some things couldn't be shared.

And the man he was becoming… wasn't the man she fell in love with.
