"Oh, my... who is this?" Safiyah blinked at him, stopping momentarily from plucking leaves on a medicinal branch. "I didn't know you have a little brother, Auri. Did you finally reunite with your family?"
"It's not like that." Auri gave an uneasy laugh. "Can we come in? I need to tell you something."
Safiyah gestured for them to come in.
Tugging the boy with him, Auri entered the clinic and explained briefly what happened at the market—how he'd seen Timofey pay in gold, how the vendors tried to take advantage of the kid, and how he'd intervened when things started getting out of hand. He left out the details and accusations involving a certain inquisitor captain, but he let the chief's daughter know about his altercation with one of the vendors. He briefed her about Timofey's situation, too.
Safiyah shook her head, sighing. "I'm sorry about what happened."
Auri gave a tired smile. "You don't have to apologize. You didn't do anything."
