Chapter 1

At the scene of a Valentine's Day landslide, my husband and his childhood sweetheart were trapped underneath.

The two of them, completely naked, were holding each other tightly. To rescue them, one person would have to be sacrificed.

"Cut off my leg and save my darling! She's pregnant!"

"Honey, it's all my fault. If I hadn't insisted on coming to the place where we first fell in love, this wouldn't have happened..."

He kissed his childhood sweetheart longingly, then took off the protective charm I had gotten for him and hung it around her neck.

"Silly girl, how could I ever blame you? For you and the baby, I'd gladly die."

Seeing that we were still trying to find a way to save them both, he frantically started smashing his own legs with a rock.

"Hurry! Save my darling now! I'll sacrifice anything!"

Watching him ready to die for his childhood sweetheart, I silently took off my wedding ring and crumpled it together with the pregnancy test results from my pocket.

I don't want the baby anymore, and I don't want my husband either.

Dash is a marathon runner, and his legs are his lifeline.

For this reason, he visits the hospital every three months to check the health of his legs, and has even taken out a massive insurance policy on them.

When I fainted at home due to low blood sugar, he preferred to wait for an ambulance to carry me rather than carry or piggyback me downstairs himself, fearing the slightest damage to his legs from the weight.

I consoled myself, thinking it was for a longer career and for our little family.

Now, he's actually willing to smash his own legs, even considering sawing them off, all for his childhood sweetheart Meadow.

After careful consideration, we decided to take a conservative approach and not amputate his legs for now.

If there's a collapse causing secondary injuries during the rescue, we'll consider amputation then.

During Meadow's rescue, the weight of the collapsing rocks above pressed entirely onto Dash's legs.

His legs were repeatedly crushed under the pressure, bleeding profusely, and he was pale and sweating from the pain.

But seeing Meadow's tearful eyes, he still managed to force a smile.

"It's nothing, darling! Our child will be born in a month. When the time comes, we'll tell him that daddy is a great hero who protected him and mommy!"

My heart felt like it had been hit with a dull hammer, aching so much I could hardly breathe. The rescue team pulled Meadow free, and in that instant, the rocks and soil above lost their support and began to tumble down.

As a large boulder rolled towards the crowd, Dash suddenly burst into action, tearing a muscle in his leg as he lunged forward to shield Meadow beneath him.

The rock slammed into his back, causing him to let out a muffled groan of pain.

"Dash, why are you so foolish? Why did you save me?"

Ignoring his own pain, Dash only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the woman was unharmed.

"I'm your husband. If I don't protect you, who will?"

"Meadow, remember that I love you. In this life and the next, I'll only love you!"

My husband of six years, right in front of me, professing his undying love for another woman.

Making the "I love you" from our wedding vows the biggest joke of all.

"It's not safe here. There could be more falling rocks and collapses at any moment. We need to go!"

"She's pregnant and hasn't had lunch. Please, take her somewhere safe first and have her thoroughly examined."

"Then make her some chicken soup. Remember to skim off the oil on top, and don't add ginger - she doesn't like it."

Dash fussed over every detail, instructing everyone as if the whole world should revolve around Meadow.

Meanwhile, we methodically cleared the scene, searching for other buried victims. He suddenly reached out and grabbed my ankle, pressing his forehead to the ground and repeatedly kowtowing.

"Please, I beg you, take her down first and get her settled. When I get out, I'll definitely send you a banner of gratitude."

He still wore our wedding ring on his index finger, yet he was begging me to save his lover.

I finished my inspection according to protocol and instructed a few people to escort Meadow down the mountain.

She turned her head from the stretcher, "Dash, I don't know if Pebbles... never mind, let fate decide!"

I continued to clear the scene with my team to rescue Dash. Scattered among the sand and stones were photos of Dash and Meadow together.

The back of each was marked with dates and locations. Every important holiday, Dash always made excuses about overtime or business trips, but it turns out he was spending time with Meadow.

Even on the night I lost my first child, he hung up on me, but was actually camping with Meadow to watch a meteor shower.

Looking at the photos in the dirt, Dash's face was full of distress.

"Can you help me find all the photos and collect them?"

A rescue colleague next to me was displeased: "There are still many people up there waiting for us to search and rescue. Time is life, who has time for these trivial things?"

As the two were at an impasse, suddenly a faint dog bark was heard from not far away.Dash's expression changed instantly, his grip tightening on my pant leg like a vise.
