"Let's go." Sebastian naturally took Lu's hand and led her toward the palace exit.
His golden eyes curved slightly, clearly in high spirits.
Lu was momentarily stunned, being pulled along while glancing back at her parents, who were eagerly discussing the engagement matters with the dragons inside the hall. "...Where are we going?"
"Don't you want to listen in?"
In such a situation, wasn't it rather inappropriate to just walk away?
"Are you eager to get engaged?" he asked with a teasing smile.
"W-what are you talking about?" Lu's eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at him, then abruptly turned her face away, huffing, "You're the one eager to get engaged, not me."
This old dragon, who didn't know how many years he had lived, had the audacity to propose to her, a newly adult little mermaid, and yet he dared to criticize her!
One might think he was the one desperately seeking a bride!
She was not at all worried about marriage; if anyone should be concerned, it should be him!
Sebastian paused, unable to suppress a laugh as he nodded in agreement, "Indeed, it is I who is eager for the engagement."
"Well then, my dear Lu, you have left the human continent without a word for so long; shouldn't you provide me... and my people with an explanation?"
"An explanation? Did I not tell you before?" Lu flicked her shimmering blue tail, recalling carefully and ultimately confirming that she had indeed bid farewell to the 'handsome human' properly.
…This shameless dragon was trying to deceive her again!
Lu instantly became vigilant, her expression turning serious as she retorted, "Nonsense! I clearly told you before I left; you are simply being unreasonable!"
"But you are already my future wife," Sebastian replied, raising an eyebrow with a leisurely demeanor.
The little mermaid cast him a dubious glance, "And so what?"
"During your time on the human continent, you must understand that as an emperor, it is impossible to be without an heir," the young man continued in a relaxed tone.
Lu pressed her lips together, unable to formulate a rebuttal, and could only ask, "So?"
What did it matter to her if the emperor had no heirs?
She truly could not fathom the peculiar thoughts that occupied his mind daily.
"You should return with me to marry and hold a wedding ceremony, to silence the whispers of the court and the people, lest I be compelled to take a multitude of women into the harem, which might inadvertently cause you displeasure in the future," Sebastian explained, feigning good humor.
Lu, somewhat perplexed, took a moment to grasp the crux of his words, finally articulating, "So, you want me to accompany you to the human continent to get married?"
"Moreover, if you are merely concerned about my feelings, truthfully… if you were to keep those women in the harem, I would have no objections." The little mermaid began to defend herself, her tone resolute, "I am not such a petty person!"
She certainly did not lack for their food!
Sebastian's smile faltered slightly, his golden eyes darkening; he had not anticipated Lu would respond in this manner.
"...Then what if I were to indulge those women as they wish? What would you do?" he asked softly.
The recent developments had unfolded so smoothly that he had almost forgotten that this little mermaid had never made any promises to him.
Of course, Sebastian acknowledged that it was also due to his teasing her on numerous occasions that Lu regarded all his actions with skepticism. After all... there were not many intriguing beings like the little mermaid.
"Indulge?" Lu took a step back, her expression devoid of emotion as her blue eyes fixed on him, the playful lightness of before entirely vanished, replaced by a bewilderment she was unaware of, "Are you... serious?"
She understood the meaning of indulgence.
Having resided in the palace, she was certainly aware.
It was just that she had not cared at the time, but now...
"I am indeed asking seriously," the young man replied.
"Have you indulged them?" Lu's brows instinctively knitted together.
Though he certainly had the freedom to indulge whomever he wished... how could it be him?
What a disadvantage for her!
She had reserved her pure affection solely for him!
Suddenly, the little mermaid pouted, an indescribable sense of grievance welling up within her, and her once-calm blue eyes began to glisten with unshed tears.
She had planned to treat him well in the future.
"...You speak quite timely."
Lu remained composed, sniffing back her emotions as she turned to seek her parents, "I reject your proposal."
She thought, thankfully, this dragon had inexplicably dragged her into this conversation.
Otherwise, she would never consider marrying a scoundrel who indulged an entire harem!
She wanted only him! This was utterly unfair!
As Lu turned her back, she raised a hand to wipe her reddened eyes, catching a cascade of small, round pearls that fell, translucent and glistening.
She gritted her teeth and tucked the pearls into her sleeve.
…Whoever wants to marry can marry! In any case, she would not!
This grievance was unbearable!
Sebastian was momentarily stunned, but he quickly regained his composure, reaching out to effortlessly pull the little mermaid back into his embrace.
He lowered his head, burying his face in the crook of her shoulder, inhaling her sweet scent as he chuckled softly.
Lu's face flushed crimson, and she struggled fiercely, her tail slapping against him, "What are you doing? We are no longer in a relationship; let go! Don't touch me!"
If she were not at a disadvantage, she would have loved to take him down!
"...I have not indulged them, nor have I touched them."
"Only you."
"And it will only ever be you."
He sighed, "In the future, listen more carefully and don't be angry, alright?"
