After a few days of rest, Zero was ready to push himself further. He had unlocked the Devour skill, but he had yet to fully test its capabilities. Determined to grow stronger, he entered a D-rank dungeon, a place swarming with weak but numerous monsters.
As soon as he stepped inside, he activated Devour. A dark aura radiated from his body, spreading through the cavern-like dungeon. The temperature seemed to drop, and an eerie silence filled the air. The beasts lurking within sensed the change—some growled in warning, while others backed away, their instincts screaming at them to flee.
But it was too late.
The Devour skill took effect, sapping the stamina of every creature that entered its range. Wolves, goblins, and mutated insects trembled as their strength drained away, their movements slowing.
Zero grinned wickedly.
"This… is perfect."
Summoning Shadow Claw, he slashed through the first wave of monsters in a single strike. Their bodies collapsed before they even had a chance to react. More beasts charged at him from the shadows, but it made no difference—his stamina was continuously regenerating, allowing him to fight without fatigue.
To Zero, this wasn't a battle.
It was a massacre.
Facing the Dungeon Boss
After effortlessly wiping out the weaker creatures, Zero stepped into the final chamber—the boss room. The temperature spiked instantly, a wave of heat washing over him. At the center of the arena stood the dungeon boss:
Infernal Hound – a monstrous, three-meter-tall wolf with fur made of blazing flames. Its red eyes locked onto Zero, and with a thunderous roar, it unleashed a stream of fire.
Zero didn't even flinch.
The flames washed over him, but his high defense nullified most of the damage. Meanwhile, Devour was already working—sapping the stamina of the Infernal Hound, weakening its flames little by little.
"Not bad," Zero muttered, summoning his dagger. "But not enough."
He dashed forward, weaving through the fire blasts with agility-enhanced movements. The Infernal Hound lunged at him, fangs bared—but Zero was faster.
With a flick of his wrist, he threw his dagger with pinpoint accuracy, aiming straight for the beast's skull.
The dagger pierced through the Hound's forehead. The monster froze mid-air, its flames flickering violently before extinguishing completely. It collapsed onto the dungeon floor, lifeless.
Zero smirked. "One-shot kill."
A Dungeon No Longer a Challenge
With the boss defeated, the dungeon began collapsing—a sign that it had been cleared. Zero looted the beast's corpse, claiming valuable materials and monster cores.
After exiting the dungeon, he made his way to the Hunter Association, where he sold the loot for a hefty sum.
Clearing D-rank dungeons had become effortless.
But Zero wasn't satisfied. If he wanted to survive the hunters searching for him, he needed more power.
Much more.
His next target?
C-rank dungeons.
