Chapter 6: The Mysterious Letter

After returning to the police station, Irene received an anonymous letter. The envelope was an ordinary kraft - paper one, and the handwriting on it was crooked, as if deliberately disguised. She carefully opened the letter, and inside was only a note that read, "If you want to know the truth, go to the abandoned warehouse."

Irene looked at the note, filled with doubts in her heart. She didn't know who had sent this letter, nor what she would encounter when going to the abandoned warehouse. But she decided to go anyway, for she knew that this might be a crucial clue to uncovering the truth of the case.

Her heart was filled with contradictions and struggles. On one hand, she was worried that this was a trap, with unknown dangers lurking behind it. On the other hand, she didn't want to miss any possible clue. After careful consideration, she still decided to bring her weapons and go to the abandoned warehouse alone.

In the evening, Irene arrived at the abandoned warehouse. The warehouse was a huge brick - and - stone building, covered with ivy on the outside, looking extremely gloomy. There was a stale smell in the warehouse. All around were piled up with various sundries, giving off a rotten odor. The light shone through the broken roof onto the ground, forming patches of light spots, like ghosts in the darkness.

She searched the warehouse carefully, taking every step with great care. Suddenly, she heard a faint sound of breathing. She immediately stopped in her tracks, looked around vigilantly, and held the gun even tighter. Her heartbeat was clearly audible in the silent warehouse, and she could feel that her palms were slightly sweating.

She slowly approached the direction of the sound, filled with tension and anticipation, not knowing what she was about to face...
