Chapter 41: The First Show of Talent

Irene and Hawk's non - governmental organization gradually took shape in that slightly shabby office. The walls were covered with various case materials, and the corners were piled with files.

One day, a young girl named Emily rushed into the office in a hurry. Her eyes were red, and her voice was tinged with sobs. "You have to help me. Our factory hasn't paid us for months, and we're made to work overtime every day. If anyone says no, they'll be targeted by those hooligans. What should we do?"

Irene quickly got up, led Emily to sit down, and handed her a cup of hot water, soothing her, "Sister, don't worry. Take your time. We'll definitely take care of this." Hawk, on the side, frowned and listened attentively, starting to plan the direction of the investigation in his mind.

In the following days, Irene and Hawk shuttled between small restaurants and grocery stores around the factory. While having simple meals with the workers, they chatted casually to get clues. "That boss is not a good person. He's on good terms with those hooligans. How dare we workers say anything?" an uncle said helplessly. Irene was so angry that she slapped the table, "This is too much bullying. We must make them pay the price!" Hawk silently recorded the key information in his notebook, secretly planning the investigation.

After difficult investigations, they finally obtained conclusive evidence. The false accounting records and photos of workers being illegally detained were shocking. But when they sent the evidence to the relevant department with full hope, they were turned back with the excuse of "insufficient evidence". Irene was angry and anxious, saying, "Obviously, they've been bribed by that boss. We can't just let it go!"
