Chapter 0035: The Shocking Discovery of Evolution

"Potential? What kind of potential?"

Cheng Chao asked, looking puzzled. While the first two conditions were understandable, the third—awakening one's potential—was completely unclear to him. Not only him, but the others also appeared equally perplexed. None of them had any idea about what "awakening potential" could mean.

"What is this potential?" Seeing the curious expressions on their faces, Di Ping smiled slightly and began, "Let me explain in a different way. You all know that dogs have mutated, cats have mutated, even rats have mutated. Tigers, crocodiles—these fierce animals have all mutated. In other words, animals have gone through a process of mutation." Di Ping spoke calmly, then paused for a moment, looking at the group with a mysterious smile. "Now, do you think humans, as the most advanced beings, might also undergo mutation? Have you ever considered that?"

Although Di Ping spoke in a calm and unhurried manner, his words were like a bomb dropped into a calm lake, shattering the surface and creating waves of confusion and fear in the hearts of the group.

The group exchanged uneasy glances, their faces filled with shock. They had all thought about these questions at some point, but because they hadn't seen any humans mutate and had no idea what would happen if it did—whether mutated humans would behave like the mutated dogs, attacking people in a frenzy—they had subconsciously ignored the possibility. But today, Di Ping had suddenly brought it up, catching everyone completely off guard.

"Can humans really mutate? If they do, would they still be human?"

Yu Shujie asked nervously, her face pale, as she seemed to fear that she might soon transform into a frenzied mutated person, attacking everyone she saw.

"Do I look like I'm mutated?"

Di Ping smiled slightly and replied. His calmness caused the others to retreat in shock, their eyes filled with both doubt and fear.

"Alright, I won't tease you anymore!"

Di Ping noticed their expressions and realized they were overwhelmed by the shock, so he decided to ease up. He smiled and waved his hand.

"What I'm talking about isn't mutation exactly. It's more like evolution, or perhaps awakening. I prefer to call it awakening. Every person has their own unique talent. This talent is usually hidden and doesn't show itself, but once it's awakened, it grants us tremendous power."

After everyone had calmed down, Di Ping explained his thoughts. These were ideas he had considered for some time. After gaining the Warrior Class from the system, he felt like he had finally found the answer to a long-standing question: this was a form of evolutionary talent. The role of the system was to guide people in unlocking their talents and learning to master the power that came with this evolution.

"Animals evolve, so why not humans? It's just that the difficulty for humans is greater. Humans have been separated from nature for too long, and our ability to absorb and sense the natural energies of the world has weakened compared to animals and plants. This might be the reason why we haven't seen many evolved humans so far."

"Evolution..."

The group was now captivated by Di Ping's theory, considering it deeply.

"Yes, evolution. Animals evolve, plants evolve, all moving toward becoming higher forms of life. Humans, too, evolve, becoming stronger, faster, more resilient. This is what happens when potential is unlocked, displaying all sorts of special abilities. Only by awakening potential can humans survive and fight in this transformed world, battling mutated animals and continuing to thrive!"

Di Ping shared his thoughts, which were informed by his system knowledge. He hoped the others would understand, but wasn't sure how they would react.

"Di Ge, why are there so few evolved humans?"

Cheng Chao soon recovered from his shock, and, as if he had suddenly realized something, asked the key question.

"There are still things I haven't fully observed, but I've thought about it. My analysis suggests two possible reasons: first, humans are no longer purely animals. We've left the jungle, lived in groups, and learned to use tools. We've lost our primal nature, leading to a gradual decline in our physical ability to absorb and process energy. Second, humans might be a higher form of intelligent life, making the process of mutation much more complex, something beyond my understanding."

Di Ping paused before adding, "But don't worry. I believe more humans will awaken their potential in the future. We just haven't encountered them yet…"

"Di Ge, are you one of the evolved?"

Cheng Chao's eyes were filled with excitement as he asked the question everyone had been dying to ask.

"Yes, I have evolved. I've awakened my talent..."

Di Ping glanced at everyone, speaking casually as though it were the least significant thing in the world.

"Ah! That's why Di Ge is so powerful!"

The group murmured among themselves, voices tinged with envy, fear, amazement, and joy. Everyone had their own reaction to this revelation.

"Alright, no more discussing this." Di Ping waved his hand, cutting off their murmurs. He noticed that the women seemed particularly eager, their eyes filled with curiosity. He smiled and said, "Don't worry, you'll all find out eventually. Maybe one of you will evolve soon. Once your potential is unlocked, you will grow stronger!"

Clapping his hands to regain everyone's attention, Di Ping smiled and said, "Today, you can all move into this castle. You can choose your rooms. But be quick, or someone else might take the better ones!"

"Alright! Let's go claim our rooms!"

The group, though still shocked, was immediately distracted by the prospect of choosing their rooms. The idea of evolution seemed distant, overshadowed by their excitement about the new living arrangements. Without further thought, they rushed upstairs, shouting and jostling for the best rooms.

Watching them, Di Ping smiled, satisfied.

As for the third floor, he had his reasons for not assigning rooms to anyone there. His plans were already in motion. The world had changed, and in this new world, the strong must be given privileges. While everyone should be treated equally, Di Ping didn't believe that true equality meant treating the strong and the weak the same. True strength deserved its own rewards.
