Suddenly, Di Ping's eyes lit up again. He recalled that he had the Detection Skill.
Why not use it to investigate? It would provide an answer right away!
He cursed himself for being so slow, forgetting about such a useful skill all this time and wasting it.
Without further delay, he focused his mind and used the skill on one of the mutated dogs.
"Mutated Dog: Status: Deceased. Meat is edible, contains a slight amount of energy. Long-term consumption may improve physical constitution."
The information appeared before Di Ping's eyes. Despite the dog's body now being reduced to charred remains, the system recognized it as edible.
It could indeed be eaten! And it wasn't toxic...
Di Ping was overjoyed. A smile spread across his face, and he turned his gaze to the massive mutated Tibetan Mastiff lying nearby. He used Detection Skill again.
"Mutated Tibetan Mastiff (Deceased): Bloodline Level: D. Talent Skill: Frenzy. Strengthened Level: 1st Stage, Level 2. Skill: Bite. Meat is edible, rich in energy. Long-term consumption may improve physical constitution."
Seeing this, Di Ping felt ecstatic but also a bit regretful. He had wasted the opportunity to save the meat from the mutated animals he had previously killed. If he had known earlier, he could have eaten more and perhaps improved his physical strength even further. He had been so foolish not to use the Detection Skill earlier.
However, he understood that his previous hesitation was due to two reasons: First, there had been enough food at the time, and second, he had felt a sense of disgust. After all, these mutated animals had consumed human flesh, and the thought of eating them left him uneasy.
But now, things were different. With starvation looming, what couldn't be eaten? It was better to eat than to starve. Besides, it wasn't human meat.
It was like a person falling into a river, being eaten by fish, and then another person eating those fish—what difference did it make? When survival was at stake, there was no room for hesitation.
"Xiao Di, do you have any plans?" Han Zhongguo asked when he noticed the joy on Di Ping's face. He immediately hoped that Di Ping had come up with a solution.
"I think the answer lies here…" Di Ping said, raising his head and seeing everyone watching him with eager expressions. He smiled slightly and pointed with his chin toward the nearby mutated dog corpses.
"Ah! Can… can we eat this?" Lu Hai exclaimed in disbelief.
Han Zhongguo, Ge Zhongping, and Lu Guoliang looked at Di Ping with astonishment. They had been relentlessly pursued by these mutated dogs and had never once considered eating these creatures. Now that Di Ping had suggested it, their expressions turned to shock.
They were both afraid and uncertain whether these creatures could be safely consumed, especially considering the terror these mutated animals had instilled in them.
"Yes, I've checked. The meat is not only edible, but long-term consumption can also improve physical constitution. Your strength and reflexes will increase!" Di Ping, seeing the doubtful looks from everyone, understood that they wouldn't dare to eat the meat without more convincing. So, he explained the benefits of consuming it.
"It can improve physical constitution? Is that true? Xiao Di, are you sure?" Ge Zhongping asked eagerly, a glint of excitement in his eyes. If it was true, then eating this meat regularly could make them stronger, even as powerful as Di Ping himself.
"Yes, I'm sure. You'll experience it for yourselves once you eat it," Di Ping replied firmly, meeting the hopeful gazes of those around him.
When everyone received Di Ping's confirmation, their expressions brightened with joy. Some of them stood up eagerly, ready to collect the meat.
There were over thirty mutated dogs, each weighing around one or two hundred kilograms, and a giant mutated Tibetan Mastiff, which likely weighed over a thousand kilograms. Together, these creatures could provide over ten thousand kilograms of meat.
The base, with its thousand or so people, could be well-fed, and more importantly, this meat could enhance their physical condition. Who wouldn't want that? After all, everyone had survived numerous dangers in this apocalyptic world and knew the importance of strength.
"Quickly! Lu Hai, organize the team and collect all the dog meat. We'll distribute it later," Ge Zhongping said, no longer able to sit still. He stood up and looked at Lu Hai, his voice anxious.
He wanted to collect the meat as quickly as possible so that he could ensure his own share. If Han Zhongguo managed to get to it first, it would be much harder to take it from him.
"Alright! I'm on it!" Lu Hai, though not the sharpest, quickly understood Ge Zhongping's intent. He hurriedly stood up and prepared to act.
Han Zhongguo, surprised by Ge Zhongping's swift response, changed his expression, but since Ge Zhongping was the current leader of the base, he couldn't interfere. His eyes, however, flashed with anger.
"Wait!" A calm voice suddenly halted Lu Hai's movement. Everyone turned to look, and it was Di Ping. The puzzled expressions of the others mirrored their confusion.
Di Ping looked at Lu Hai indifferently. Lu Hai, though outwardly calm, was seething inside, thinking to himself that this young man had no right to give orders. Who did he think he was?
"Yue Lie, Liu Han, you two, along with Director Lu, collect all the meat," Di Ping said, not paying attention to the questioning looks or the anger in Lu Hai's eyes. He simply glanced at Yue Lie and Liu Han, giving them a calm, straightforward command.
