Chapter 25: Echoes Of Survival

Breakfast and A Reminder

The sun had just begun its slow ascent over the horizon, stretching golden fingers of light across the town of Glenavare. Inside the modest yet fortified home nestled within the quieter side of town, the morning routine had begun. The scent of scrambled eggs and toast mixed with the sharper tang of freshly brewed coffee, filling the air with a sense of normalcy. But nothing about today was normal.

Catherine and Kaitherine sat at the dining table, their movements synchronized as they pushed eggs around their plates. Their mother, Celine, stood by the sink rinsing a cup, while Cleo leaned against the counter, arms crossed. The tension in the air was subtle, almost imperceptible, but it existed.

“You two know what to do,” Cleo’s voice was calm but edged with authority. She turned to face the twins, leveling them with a gaze that was impossible to ignore.

Kaitherine dropped her fork with a sigh. “It won’t happen.”
