Chapter 2

I understood and immediately began packing my things to search for a new place to live.

However, with all my money needed for medical treatment, my living conditions had to be drastically downgraded.

Eventually, I found a spot in an urban village. The surrounding area had been demolished, with only one street separating this place from the cleared zone.

The apartment was old, tiny, and run-down, but there was a market right downstairs. It cost $500 a month and came with nothing but a bed.

A dying person can't be too picky. I paid the elderly landlady for three months' rent and moved in that day.

The swelling and pain in my body left me breathless for a while. Once I recovered, I pulled out my phone and checked the local part-time job group. The group admin had just posted a message: "Hyatt Hotel celebrity meet-and-greet event, urgently needs ten security guards for the outdoor area, daily pay!"

I immediately signed up. The admin registered me and then asked, "Hey man, how's your illness? Can you handle it?"

"No problem, I'm still good!"

Only then did he feel reassured, even specially assigning me to the parking lot where there were fewer people, so I could take it easier.

See, there are still plenty of good people out there!

When I arrived at the venue, it was packed with fans. I only realized from the banner that the big star appearing today was Melody.

What a coincidence.

I couldn't help but laugh bitterly. Life really is full of drama.

I made my way to the parking lot, where three security guards were already stationed. But we had underestimated just how crazy the fans could be.As the car pulled up and we prepared to escort Melody inside, a girl suddenly appeared out of nowhere, shrieking at the top of her lungs!

"Melody!"

In an instant, a crowd swarmed towards us.

Melody frowned, and the three of us immediately stepped forward, arms outstretched to hold them back.

Fans held up their phones, filming Melody. The screaming was deafening in my ears. In the pushing and shoving, I stumbled slightly, bumping into someone behind me, only to be shoved away forcefully!

"Don't touch my Melody!"

Before I could react, a crazed fan punched me hard in the face!

Blood immediately covered my face, and chaos erupted.

My vision blurred, but I could faintly hear Melody's voice: "Stop it! Stop fighting!"

It wasn't until the sound of police sirens approached that I was taken to a break room to have my wounds bandaged. That's when Melody appeared.

"Brent, you're so desperate to see me that you'd disguise yourself as security to sneak in!"

"Don't you know I signed an endorsement deal for this event today? Are you trying to ruin me?"

Melody's eyes were full of undisguised disgust. I coughed lightly and showed her my chat logs. "I'm just here for a part-time job."

Seeing this, her tone softened. "Fine, you rest up then!"At this moment, Randal came in. "Momo, it's your turn to go on stage."

Seeing me, his face turned serious. "Mr. Carlisle, even if you regret it and want to win Momo back, you can't do it like this. Do you know how much negative impact today's incident has on her?"

"For money, you sure know how to act! That's enough, don't play innocent after taking advantage!"

"What advantage?!" Melody asked, confused.

Randal looked down at me condescendingly. "He deliberately used you to make headlines. Today, people have already dug up his background - Melody's ex-boyfriend. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!"

"Maybe he can even start livestreaming and selling products with this!"

Hearing this, Melody's face, which had just softened, suddenly turned sharp. "Are you that desperate for money? Brent, you're still so disgusting!"

With that, Melody took out her phone, found the trending topics, and immediately posted: "Ex-boyfriend, no relationship whatsoever, don't drag me into this!"

She was eager to distance herself from me.

Melody turned and left, while Randal said to me: "You shouldn't have appeared in front of her!"

He signaled the security guards to drag me out!

My forehead was wrapped in gauze, and my head was spinning.

As soon as I got out, the paparazzi pulled me into a car."Brent, have you lost your mind? Are you trying to get fired? That's an A-list celebrity you're trying to scam!"
