Kael walked forward, his steps unsteady as he adjusted to the shifting dungeon. The once solid stone beneath his feet now pulsed with a strange energy, the air thick with the remnants of the Abyssal Core's influence. He could feel it inside him—something foreign, something powerful, but most importantly, something unstable.
[Abyssal Core Assimilated – Partial Integration In Progress.]
[Warning: Unknown Consequences Expected.]
Kael clenched his fists, feeling the faint hum of energy beneath his skin. He had no idea what kind of changes were taking place inside him, but he could tell one thing—the dungeon itself had changed with him.
Before, it had been a structured ruin, following the same architecture of an ancient civilization. Now, it was something else. The walls no longer held the same cracks and dust-covered stones. They shifted, forming and reforming, almost as if they were breathing. The red runes that once adorned the walls had changed to an eerie purple, pulsing like veins filled with unknown energy.
Kael exhaled. Whatever I did, it rewrote the dungeon.
He looked at his hand, flexing his fingers as he focused inward. The Abyssal power that had entered his body wasn't just lying dormant—it was active, spreading through him. He could feel it weaving itself into his mana circuits, altering them in ways he didn't understand yet.
Then, the system chimed again.
[Dungeon Authority Recognized.]
[You have been acknowledged as an Unofficial Keeper of the Abyssal Ruins.]
Kael froze.
"Keeper?" he muttered. That title was never mentioned before.
He pulled up his status screen, his fingers swiping instinctively through the system interface. His eyes scanned through his stats, stopping when he saw the newly added section.
Title: Abyssal Dungeon Keeper (Unofficial)
Effect: Grants partial control over the dungeon's structure. Limited influence over Abyssal entities.
Kael's breath hitched. Partial control over the dungeon?
He focused on his surroundings again. If this title was real, could he… change the dungeon itself?
A thought crossed his mind. If I can control it, even in a limited way, let's see how much.
He extended his hand, focusing on the wall ahead of him. The strange, breathing stone pulsed under his touch, responding to his presence. He concentrated, imagining a pathway forming, just a small one—nothing too drastic.
The wall shuddered.
Kael stepped back, watching in shock as the stone rearranged itself, splitting apart to reveal a new passageway.
[Abyssal Influence Confirmed – Minor Terrain Manipulation Unlocked.]
Kael's pulse raced. I can reshape the dungeon.
The implications were massive. In this world, dungeons were seen as unchanging, ancient structures set in place by divine forces or unknown origins. If he could manipulate one, even in a minor way, it meant… he was outside the normal rules.
But he had little time to process the information.
Because the moment the passage opened, something inside it moved.
A low, guttural growl echoed from the dark corridor.
Kael tensed, gripping his broken sword tightly. I should have expected that.
From the shadows, a creature emerged.
Its body was elongated, twisted, part shadow, part flesh, as if it had been forcefully reshaped by the Abyss itself. Its limbs were long and jagged, and its eyes—dozens of them—blinked erratically across its face, each one glowing with a sickly violet light.
[Abyssal Guardian Awakened.]
[Corruption Level: Mid-Tier Abyssal Spawn.]
Kael took a deep breath. "Mid-Tier? That doesn't sound good."
The creature moved unnaturally, its body flickering like a mirage. Then, in an instant, it lunged.
Kael barely had time to react.
He dove sideways, rolling across the uneven floor as the creature's claw tore through the space where he had just stood. The impact cracked the stone beneath it, sending dust and shards flying.
It's fast.
Kael's grip on his sword tightened. His instincts screamed at him to run, but something inside him—something new—urged him to fight.
His mana surged.
The Abyssal energy inside him reacted, flowing into his limbs. His body moved before he could think.
The creature lunged again, but this time, Kael stepped into the attack.
He twisted, bringing his broken sword down hard, the Abyssal energy within him flaring. The moment his blade connected—
A shockwave ripped through the air.
The creature howled, its form distorting as the energy tore through its core. It wasn't just a physical strike—it was something deeper, something that unraveled its very existence.
The creature twisted violently, its body disintegrating into shadows before finally vanishing.
[Abyssal Guardian Defeated.]
[Skill Progression: Abyssal Assimilation (Novice → Adept).]
Kael exhaled, his body trembling slightly. His sword, cracked and barely holding together, hummed with lingering energy.
"I'm getting stronger," he muttered. But this wasn't just normal growth—his abilities were evolving too quickly.
He glanced back at the newly created pathway. If creatures like that were guarding the deeper parts of the dungeon, then whatever lay ahead was on a completely different level.
His body ached, but he forced himself to move forward. He had unlocked something new, something dangerous.
And he had no choice but to keep going.
With his hand still tingling from the remnants of Abyssal energy, Kael stepped into the darkness.
