19. The Pursuit

MATTEO’S POV

Sitting across the table was one of my most trusted men, Carter. He leaned back on his chair and placed his legs on my desk, staring at me like I was a child that needed to spill some dark secret.

“What happened here?”

I kept to myself. My hands dipped in my pockets and eyes, searching the forest just outside the window.

“Matteo?”. He called out, but I was too engrossed with the thoughts in my head.

I heard him sigh loudly before the shuffling sound of papers was heard. “Since you won’t tell me. At least sign this. You bailed on your clients the last time, and they didn’t cancel the deal at least. All we have to do is ship the new stock to them”

“Then, do it. Why do you need me for this”. I asked, giving him my full attention.

“I don’t need you. I need you to sign these for it to happen. Look Matteo, you’ve been so invested in this finding your wife’s lover that you forget you have a business to run”

“And Diego?”. I asked.
