ARIA’s POV

I leaned back in my seat, sighing. He had left a few minutes ago, but something in me wanted him back, while another part of me wanted him gone because there was something about him I couldn’t quite decipher.

As I looked out the window, watching the sun set, Carter joined me, holding a file in his hands.

“Hey”. He said, and I smiled at him.

“Hi”. I replied. He took a seat opposite me and leaned forward.

“I’ve got something you’d like to see”.

“What could that be?”.

“I’m sorry, but Matteo asked for a background check before he married you. And, we figured out your mom was killed by a strange man” I adjusted in my seat as my throat ran dry.

“Why would you do that?”

“We found him, so it doesn’t matter why we did what we did”. I looked at him for a good minute and sighed.

“Who is he?”. I asked, soothing my patched throat with my fingers, and I saw how his eyes glanced at my hand, rubbing circles before they went back to my eyes.
