Flashback

The gentle glow of the afternoon sun bathed the school courtyard in a golden hue. Laughter echoed through the air as students gathered in groups, chatting and unwinding after a long day of classes. Among them, a girl stood between two boys, each contrasting in demeanor yet equally familiar.

Renji Kisaragi, her childhood friend, exuded an effortless confidence. With a mischievous grin and an easygoing attitude, he had always been the type to pull her into trouble before flashing an innocent smile that somehow lessened the severity of his antics. His messy blue hair swayed slightly in the breeze, and his amber eyes sparkled with amusement.

"You still haven't beaten me in a race," Renji teased, leaning against the nearby tree. "At this rate, I might just have to retire undefeated."

She crossed her arms, rolling her eyes. "Oh, please. You only win because you start running before I even finish counting down."

Haruto Sumeragi, the ever-serious student council vice president, scoffed at their conversation. Unlike Renji's carefree demeanor, Haruto carried himself with an air of precision and control. His neatly pressed uniform, sharp gaze, and impeccably styled dark hair made him look every bit the responsible authority figure he was known to be.

"If you spent half as much time studying as you do running your mouth, you might actually improve," Haruto remarked, his tone laced with sarcasm.

Renji feigned a wounded expression. "Ouch. And here I thought you were starting to warm up to me."

The girl chuckled at their familiar banter. Despite their differences, the two boys had been constants in her life—Renji, the ever-playful troublemaker, and Haruto, the pragmatic and sharp-tongued perfectionist. She often found herself caught between them, the balance between their opposing energies.

"You know," she mused, looking up at the sky, "it's funny how things never change. You two have been like this since we were kids."

Renji smirked. "And you've been stuck dealing with both of us this whole time. Must be tough."

Haruto adjusted his glasses. "She manages, somehow."

A gust of wind rustled the trees, carrying with it echoes of past summers spent running through the fields, arguing over silly things, and making memories that, even now, shaped who they were.

It was in that moment, standing between the relentless energy of Renji and the unwavering steadiness of Haruto, that she realized—some friendships, no matter how different, would always remain unshaken by time.

Miyuki Asano - Flashback

The rain drizzled softly against the rooftop, the rhythmic patter creating a soothing melody that echoed through the quiet halls. Miyuki Asano stood by the window, her fingers tracing the faint outlines of raindrops sliding down the glass. The overcast sky matched the weight in her heart, the memories swirling in her mind like a storm she couldn't escape.

Years ago, the laughter of children had filled the very same corridors. Miyuki, a bright-eyed girl with a boundless sense of curiosity, had once run through these halls with boundless energy. Her mother's gentle smile, her father's reassuring presence—those were the anchors of her childhood. But time had a cruel way of eroding the things one held dear.

She could still remember the day everything changed. The warmth of her mother's hand slipping away, the echo of her father's strained voice trying to reassure her even as the weight of reality pressed down on them both. The world had not stopped spinning, but for Miyuki, it had come to a halt in that moment.

"Hey, are you okay?"

A voice pulled her back to the present. She turned to see a familiar face, concern written in their eyes. For a moment, the past and present blurred together. She let out a small breath, forcing a smile.

"Yeah," she said, glancing back at the rain. "Just remembering something."

The memories would always be a part of her, but they no longer had the power to chain her down. Instead, they would become the stepping stones toward whatever future lay ahead.
