Pulled in Two Directions

Rina's hand crept up just a little just enough to get the Major's attention without breaking that calm, Captain Hunter facade.

"Sir, I'm scheduled to be overseeing the migrant processing operation on the border today. Are we reassigning my unit?"

 The Major nodded, lip pressed tight as if he was holding ten fires at once.

Your team is still on migration patrol, Captain. We need stability there it's crucial. We can't afford another panic like last month."

Rina nodded brusquely, but her mind was already running.

Border duty was tense lately. Families streaming in from the fringes, scared and desperate. One misstep could cause a riot.

She knew that. Hell, she'd defused that same situation two weeks ago.

But this smuggler Viper 

She had that feeling.

"Understood, sir," Rina said back, voice strict.

Duty first.

Always.

But deep within her underneath the uniform, under the immortal armor she kept hidden Hunterrina felt the tempest starting to simmer.
