Night’s Disturbance

Rina finally crashed onto her bed, the weight of the day pulling her down like gravity had doubled. Mind racing, but body surrendering.

Sleep took her.

For a while, at least.

Somewhere around 1… maybe 2 AM her eyes snapped open.

A scream pierced the night. Sharp, desperate.

A woman.

Rina sat up, instincts flaring. Her hand twitched for a sword that wasn't there.

But she stilled herself. Human. Normal. Captain Hunter.

She got up, moving to her window, pushing the curtain aside.

The street below dimly lit by flickering neon signs and streetlamps.

A struggle. Two men masks one had a knife.

A woman cornered, clutching her purse.

But before Rina could even think about heading down it happened.

A man stepped in.

Fast. Brutal. Efficient.

He took them apart like a trained soldier or something more.

One robber collapsed groaning. The other… didn't get up.

The woman didn't scream again. She didn't even flinch.

Instead… she praised him.

Clutching his hand, thanking him like he was a savior.

Rina's eyes narrowed.

No fear. No shock.

Just… gratitude.

Why?

Her gut twisted. It didn't sit right.

A simple mugging or something else?
