Slipping Away

Rina glanced at the time on her watch an excuse, though she didn't really need one.

She offered Eleanor a polite smile. "It was really nice meeting you, Ms. Hayes, but I should get going. Got work early tomorrow."

Eleanor gave a warm nod. "Of course, dear. It was lovely talking to you. If you ever want to hear more about Hailee… I'd be happy to share."

Rina hesitated for a split second, then forced a chuckle. "Maybe someday."

Eleanor patted her arm. "Take care of yourself. The world could use more people like your grandmother."

Rina smiled a real one, just a little bittersweet.

"I'll try."

With that, she turned, walking toward the checkout, her mind already racing.
