Just as Rina was about to pull herself together, a deafening explosion shook the ground beneath her. The shockwave sent a pulse through the air, shattering windows and setting off car alarms.
Her heart lurched. No. Not now.
Flames erupted in the distance, painting the night sky in shades of orange and black. People screamed, running in different directions as chaos spread through the city.
Her team she had told them to take the day off.
"Shit."
Without hesitation, Rina sprinted toward the explosion.
Rina yanked her earpiece from her pocket and jammed it into place, dialing the emergency frequency.
"This is Captain Rina Hunter status report, now!" she barked, weaving through the panicked crowd.
Static. Then a voice.
"Captain! We just got word multiple explosions across the district. We're scrambling units now!"
Rina's jaw clenched. It's coordinated.
"Get me eyes in the sky! And someone track Sybil this has her name all over it."
She cut the call short and picked up speed, her mind racing. If this was Sybil's doing, she had just made the biggest mistake of her life.
