The Trip

GONZALO

The rain had begun to fall softly as I climbed into my car, and I glanced down at my phone almost instinctively.

There it was, a message from Klaus. I unlocked it with a quick swipe, and the words made my pulse quicken.

Klaus: "Got a tip about Selena's location. It's from Richard."

Richard. Of all people. I'd never trusted that crafty man even though we crossed we paths in business, rarely aligned.

His reputation for manipulation and double-dealing was well known in our circles, and I'd always suspected that he'd be playing his own game behind the scenes. Still, a tip from him regarding Selena?

That could be nothing more than a diversionary. My skepticism warred with a grudging curiosity.

I frowned at the message, my thoughts spiraling. "Klaus, get me all details on this tip. Who's the informant?" I barked into the phone, my tone sharp and impatient.
