Everything sounded like a tale from an horror movie and obviously Avery wasn't done with the telling.
"And the only reason, I believe, Fred hasn't killed me is because he and my mom have prepared documents with plans to deceive me to sign, handing power of attorney to my mom after I would have claimed my inheritance" Avery was saying.
"It's when they have made me sign over my wealth that I'll no longer be of use to them and that's when Fred plans to get rid of me!" Avery ended her statement with a sad look.
"If what you say is true, then why did Karen come to me for help? I'm confused, Avery. Your mother came to ask me to protect you both especially you from the same Fred. Why would she do that if she was thick as knives in the plot?" A bewildered Kenny asked.
"They have fallen out with each other! They fight all the time now and mom is scared for her life. She can only front me to get help from you!"
"When you discovered the truth, why didn't you run for your life? Why didn't you put your safety first by reporting it to the police? Why are you still in that house?" Kenny looked at Avery incredulously.
"Uncle Kenny, I believe Fred won't hurt me till 4 years time when I would have claimed my inheritance. He doesn't know I'm aware of everything going on. This only means I have less than 4 years to exact my vengeance on him!"
Kenny was surprised beyond words. A little child exacting vengeance??
"You assume too much, Avery. No one can predict the behavior of a lunatic and that is what Fred is; a lunatic! And how were you planning to exact your so called vengeance?" Kenny asked in amusement.
He continued "I strongly believe they should be arrested and put to jail for their crimes. Won't you feel bad to see your mother placed in jail?"
"Uncle, I actually don't want Fred or my mom to be arrested. What I want is for them to suffer and die the way my father died" Avery said with so much passion in her voice.
"Getting them arrested and jailed would have been better, if you asked me, Avery"
"But they will eventually be released, won't they?"
"Yes, but that would be after a very long time Avery"
"Uncle, please, I need for both of them to suffer before my mind can know any peace"
"Avery, you're too young to harbor such pent up feelings of hatred in you but don't worry, I'll see what I can do, okay?"
Avery nodded in response.
Kenny was brimming with unbridled rage.
So Karen had shamelessly lied to him?
She had connived with Fred to kill Samson, his brother?
She had made life unbearable for Avery and was still planning to get rid of Avery after duping her of her inheritance?
To make matters worse, she was asking for his help after all the terrible things she had done.
Did she think him a fool?
He looked at Avery sitting across from him in the study and he just had to admire this young lady.
She was brave and foolish at the same time and to think she was only 14 years old!
She had already started displaying wisdom far above her peers.
He really believed she would do great in life.
She wanted her enemies to suffer the same fate as her father.
He would gladly help her unleash terror on Fred, Karen or whoever was foolish enough to bare their teeth at Avery or anybody he regarded as family.
"Avery, I promise that those that caused your father, my brother's death will not die easily" He promised her.
"But I have also promised your mother to do all in my power to keep you and her safe from Fred and I can't break that promise"
"But that was before you knew what was really going on, uncle Kenny. Surely, you can't remain bound to that promise after knowing the truth?" Avery asked.
"Silly girl, I'm still bound to my promise nonetheless because my word is my bond and I always keep to my word"
"But you have just given me your word, are you going to break your promise to me then?" Avery asked sadly.
"I don't intend to break my promise to you either. Let's come to a compromise. I shall keep my promise to Karen by helping her fight Fred and I shall keep my promise to you by allowing you exact your vengeance on her yourself and that's if you can. Deal?"
"Deal!" Avery replied.
"And by the way, you'll have to bring that notebook to me so I can begin my own investigations"
"But, uncle, do you doubt all I have told you?"
"No, not at all. I'm asking for the book so as to read all the atrocities those two have both committed and use the knowledge against them"
"Will you confront my mother?"
"Would you like me to confront her, Avery?" Kenny asked.
"No, uncle, if you confront her, it would give her a chance to repent which I don't want. I would prefer she repents as she is leaving the earth to meet my father!"
"Little girl, remind me from time to time never to offend you. I mean isn't that too harsh for even your own mother?"
"I'm sorry uncle but the pain has been too much for me to bear"
"Avery, why don't you come and live here with me and your aunt Marjorie? That way, we'll enroll you in school and also keep you protected" Kenny offered.
"I'm grateful for the offer but I wouldn't like to impose on you and aunt Marjorie and besides I quite enjoy my classes with Mrs Emma"
"You wouldn't be imposing on us, silly girl"
"Thank you again uncle. I will think about it and get back to you"
"My doors are wide open anytime you change your mind. I'm certain by now, your mom would be wondering where we've gone to. Let's go find her, shall we?" He asked
"Okay sir" Avery replied.
