The next morning, Pin was already at the site, checking the latest developments when Arin arrived, carrying two cups of coffee. She placed one beside Pin without a word and stood beside her, observing the workers.
Pin glanced at the cup but didn't say anything. Instead, she focused on her checklist, marking off completed tasks. Arin, leaning in slightly, asked, "What's the plan for today?"
Pin sighed, pointing at the list. "We need to finalize the material orders and check the foundation work. The last batch of supplies had some issues."
Arin nodded. "I'll handle the suppliers. You deal with the technical side."
Pin hesitated for a second. "Fine. Just don't mess it up."
Arin chuckled. "Have a little faith in me."
As the day progressed, they found themselves slipping into a natural rhythm. Arin dealt with the suppliers efficiently, while Pin made sure the workers had everything they needed. There was little room for personal conversations, but the air between them wasn't as tense as before.
During lunch, Poly and some team members joined them at the temporary office. The conversation shifted between work and casual talk, but Pin remained mostly silent, focused on her food.
Arin, however, was her usual self, throwing in occasional teasing comments. When one of the team members asked about their past, Pin shot Arin a warning look.
"We worked together before," Arin said smoothly, sipping her drink. "That's all."
Poly smirked, clearly amused by the atmosphere. "Right. Just work."
After lunch, Pin and Arin went back to their respective tasks. Pin was reviewing the blueprint when she felt someone standing behind her. She turned to see Arin, looking at the plan over her shoulder.
"You're too close," Pin muttered.
Arin smirked. "I'm just checking the layout."
Pin stepped to the side, creating space. "Then do it from a distance."
Arin raised an eyebrow. "Still pushing me away?"
Pin didn't respond. Instead, she handed Arin the report and walked off to check on the workers.
By evening, after wrapping up work, Pin sat in the office, massaging her temples. Arin walked in, tossing a snack in front of her.
"You need to eat," Arin said, sitting across from her.
Pin looked at the snack and then at Arin. "Stop acting like you care."
Arin's expression turned serious. "But I do."
Pin clenched her fists. "Caring isn't enough, Arin. It never was."
Arin exhaled. "Then tell me what is."
Pin stood up, grabbing her things. "Figure it out yourself."
She left the office, leaving Arin staring after her, determined more than ever to prove that she wasn't walking away this time.
