Chapter 32 – The Golem's Challenge
I stared at the towering monster in front of me, then back at Leon.
All I could say was—
"Fuck."
This wasn't part of the plan.
I had no intention of playing the hero here. The whole idea was to stay at the back and act only when absolutely necessary. Why the hell am I suddenly the main character of this dungeon fight?
Leon gave me a warm smile. Bastard.
I glanced at Iris for support, but she just gave me a helpless look, as if saying, Sorry, I can't help you with this one.
I sighed. Well, I guess I have to do it.
---
The Battle Begins
The golem made the first move.
Its massive stone arm swung toward us like a collapsing building.
Boom!
Rael stepped forward, his sword flashing. With a single strike, he blocked the attack, forcing the golem to stagger slightly. Then, without hesitation, the entire hero party jumped back—leaving me alone to face the monster.
"Wha—"
I turned to glare at them.
Leon just smiled. "Good luck, Edric!"
These bastards.
The golem roared, shaking the entire dungeon. Its glowing eyes locked onto me, and I could feel its overwhelming presence.
I knew its weakness from the novel—its core.
Destroying the core would instantly kill it. The problem? I couldn't see the core.
Some golems had exposed cores, but this one had it hidden somewhere inside its massive body. If I didn't destroy the core, the damn thing would keep regenerating.
"Alright… think, Edric, think," I muttered to myself.
Where could it be hidden?
---
Dodging Death
"Edric, just cut it in two!" Leon shouted from the back.
I shot him an annoyed glare. Oh, sure, let me just casually slice a giant stone monster in half. No problem, right?
Meanwhile, the golem wasn't just standing there waiting for me to strategize.
It kept attacking, its massive stone fists slamming into the ground, leaving behind craters. I kept dodging, narrowly avoiding the devastating blows. Each time its fist smashed down, the entire dungeon trembled. The ground was cracking, making it harder to find a stable place to stand.
I couldn't keep dodging forever.
I needed to attack.
---
Tapping into the Flow
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
I remembered my father's words—Don't think. Feel.
I let my body relax.
In the darkness behind my eyelids, I saw a light. A simple, guiding light.
I didn't fight against it. I let my body flow toward it. My grip on the sword tightened as I followed the rhythm.
Then—
I moved.
I didn't know how many times my sword slashed. I wasn't counting. My body simply moved on instinct, flowing through a dance of destruction.
By the time I opened my eyes again—
The golem was in pieces.
---
Recognition
A brief silence followed.
Then—
Clap! Clap! Clap!
I turned to see Leon and Iris clapping.
"Whoa," Leon said, looking impressed. "That was incredible! Your movements were extraordinary. Where did you learn to fight like that?"
I sheathed my sword and answered simply, "My father."
At the mention of my father, their reactions immediately shifted to understanding.
"Ah," Leon said, nodding. "That makes sense. You really are lucky."
Before we could continue the conversation—
The golem reformed.
The pieces of stone trembled, gathering together as it stood back up. Its core was still intact.
Leon, however, didn't seem concerned.
He placed a hand on his sword and, in a single instant, destroyed the core with ease.
The golem collapsed completely, crumbling into dust.
Leon turned to me with a satisfied smile. "Edric, you did well."
---
Dungeon Cleared
With the golem's defeat, the dungeon was officially conquered.
As a reward, we obtained the golem's core—a rare, valuable item. Mages could absorb mana from it, and its market price was insanely high.
Leon inspected it and nodded. "This will be useful."
Since it was already late, he made the decision.
"We'll camp here for the night," he announced. "Tomorrow, we start our real journey."
Everyone agreed.
We set up our sleeping arrangements and prepared to rest.
I lay down, staring at the ceiling of the dungeon, feeling the exhaustion settle into my muscles.
This world really doesn't let me take it easy, huh?
With that thought, I closed my eyes, preparing for whatever came next.
