It was a beautiful day in Chuchu Town. It was
the first day of the week, and the town was already alive with activity. Everyone was awake, preparing for their daily routines.
Across the street, there was a wealthy and
well-respected family called The Dikes. The father, EddieDike, was a prominent businessman, his lovely wife, LilyDike, stood by his side, and together they had their only son, Thorndike.
Thorndike was an ambitious and highly educated man with numerous humanitarian awards, recognized for his love and care for the people of Chuchu Town. He was respected and admired by all.
As he sat in his study, lost in thought, his
mother walked in and called his name.
"Thorndike, your father is requesting to speak with you immediately."
Her tone made him anxious.
"Mother, is everything alright?" he asked.
"I have no idea," she replied. "Your father
just asked for you. Hurry up, he's waiting outside."
Thorndike wasted no time. He walked to the
garden, where his father sat gazing at the sky, watching the birds as they flew and chirped.
"Father, good morning. You asked for me—hope all is well?" Thorndike greeted him.
EddieDike turned to him with a smile. "Oh yes, my son, I am fine. I just wanted to talk to you about something important."
Thorndike nodded, waiting for his father to
continue.
"Have you heard the latest news?" EddieDike asked.
"Is it about the government and their propaganda?" Thorndike responded.
"Oh no," his father chuckled. "It's about my very good friend, Mr. Watson. He sent us his son's wedding invitation."
"John is getting married?" Thorndike asked in surprise.
"Yes, he is," his father replied.
"That's great news! I'm sure you and Mom will be excited to attend."
EddieDike laughed. "Of course! We watched John grow up, and he is also your close friend. We will attend together."
Thorndike smiled. "Of course, Father. We will be there."
EddieDike leaned forward. "Do you know what would give me even more joy?"
"What is it, Dad?"
His father's smile grew. "Seeing you get married too. That is the joy of every parent."
Thorndike chuckled. "I knew it! Father, you know I'm a busy man. I don't have time for love or even building a family."
Just then, LilyDike walked in, shaking her head with a smile.
"My son, life is more than working, gathering wealth, or becoming famous. What is the point of it all if you have no family to share it with?"
Thorndike sighed. "Why do I need a new family when I already have you and Dad? That's all that matters to me."
His mother smiled knowingly. "We know we are here for you, but what happens when we are no longer alive?"
Thorndike was silent.
"Don't answer that question now," she said. "Just think about it. We want you to be happy and to have a good life. Open your heart to love, build a family, and give us grandchildren." She winked playfully.
Thorndike sighed, then grinned. "Alright, Mom, I'll do what you say. But I won't just marry any girl—I will choose a wife just like you." He laughed.
His mother beamed.
"I have to go now. I'll see you both later. I love you."
He quickly checked his watch and realized he
was running late.
"Mom, I have a meeting at the office. I can't stay for breakfast, but you and Dad should eat. Don't forget, breakfast is important."
LilyDike chuckled. "Oh, I know you'll say that. But you should eat too."
"I promise I'll eat something at the new restaurant, The Moon."
With that, he grabbed his briefcase and hurried out the door.
