Chapter 3

Elias hadn't even opened his mouth when Athena reached out and took his hand, sneering at my pretentiousness.

"Vesper, aren't you being a bit too full of yourself? Who cares about you?"

"This is what we call charity! Don't you get it?"

She took off a bracelet from her wrist and placed it in my hand.

"This has real gemstones on it. Even if you sell it second-hand, it's worth at least 300 grand. Take it and go!"

The malice in her eyes was undisguised, but her face wore a look of pity.

"Just take it, stop pretending. We invited you here today to help you out!"

"Elias told me before, without him, you must be struggling."

In the crowd, some couldn't hold back their snickers, while others praised Athena for her kindness, willing to give tens of thousands to her husband's ex-girlfriend.

"Vesper doesn't know what's good for her. This is helping her."

"Athena is so kind-hearted. What does Vesper think she is? They were nice enough to invite her to the wedding, arrange a private car to pick her up, and she shows up dressed like that. She's just here to cause trouble."

"Women like her, besides a pretty face, what use are they?"

"Vesper, how come we never noticed in school that you were so stubborn..."

Private car pickup? You mean forcibly bringing me to the hotel as soon as I got off the plane?I couldn't help but smile wryly as I avoided the bracelet and pushed it back.

"Thank you, but I don't need something like that."

"I've seen you both and attended the wedding. I'll just give you a gift and be on my way."

After all, we had no relationship anymore. I just wanted to get home as soon as possible. In a few more hours...

A hand reached out in front of me as the couple approached, arm in arm.

"You want to give us a gift? Well, where is it?"

Elias carefully fastened the bracelet on Athena's wrist, his gaze falling on me before sliding away.

I had come in empty-handed, and he thought I was bluffing. He was waiting to see me embarrassed and didn't hesitate to chime in.

A waft of perfume filled my nostrils as Athena exaggerated her expression, deliberately raising her voice.

"A gift?! What kind of gift is it?"

"Even though we don't want for anything now, I'm sure what you're giving us will be unlike anyone else's. I'm so excited!"

Countless eyes fell on me as I reached into the shoulder bag and took out a small wooden box, handing it to her.

The next second, the box was opened in front of everyone. Its contents, as if not held securely, fell directly to the ground.

The object rolled out, coming to a stop right by the man's feet.

Laughter erupted again, and the sound of a camera clicking came from behind me. Athena's expression was exaggerated as she let out a laugh."Is this your idea of a wedding gift?!"

"A worthless pebble?!"
