I was in the operating room having 28 eggs retrieved, while Kellan was next door accompanying his little childhood sweetheart for an abortion procedure.
When the doctor called out the family member's name for the tenth time in the hallway, Kellan finally rushed over hurriedly.
He left only one sentence before hurriedly departing again.
"So many women are lining up for egg retrieval, what's there to be so fussy about!? You have to ask me about such a trivial matter, can't you make your own decision?"
In the operating room, I felt utterly hopeless and immediately called for the doctor to stop what he was doing.
I turned and called my best friend abroad, and booked a flight for seven days later.
But when I was really about to leave, Kellan panicked.
He found me with red-rimmed eyes, but the love was gone.

"Are you sure you want to stop the egg retrieval? We've only collected six eggs so far, which is far below the quota needed for in vitro fertilization. There's a very high chance of failure."
On the operating table, the doctor asked me with uncertainty in his voice.
"Are you sure you don't want to consult with your family members?"
The doctor's egg retrieval needle, several inches long, scared me. I forced a bitter smile while enduring the searing pain in my lower body.
"No need. Didn't he just say I could make my own decisions?"
When I got home, Kellan was smoking on the couch.
He knew perfectly well that I hated the smell of cigarettes.
Seeing me enter, he first looked surprised, then frowned deeply.
"Why are you back now!?"
"What, didn't expect me to come home? Or have you forgotten that I'm the lady of this house?"
"Vivienne! Do you always have to be so dramatic? It's just a few eggs, stop being so precious about it!"
"So many women are lining up to donate eggs, and here you are making a fuss. Aren't you embarrassed?"
"You were the one who desperately wanted a child in the first place, and now you're being all sensitive about it!"
I didn't answer him and walked towards the bedroom.
As I approached, the door suddenly opened from the inside.Sarah was wearing my silk slip dress, the one I had just bought to spice things up in the bedroom but hadn't even had a chance to wear yet.
Sarah's face mirrored my surprise at my unexpected return home. "Vivienne, sis, you don't mind, do you? I just... my clothes were soaked through, so I had to borrow something from your closet~"
As Vivienne spoke, her eyes kept darting towards Kellan, her cheeks still flushed pink, making it all too easy to imagine what had just transpired.
"Sarah just got back from overseas and now she's had a miscarriage. She needs someone to look after her, so we're letting her stay with us," Kellan cleared his throat, a telltale sign of his guilt. No wonder he looked so shocked earlier.
"You have experience with this, after all, you just had a miscarriage yourself not too long ago."
"Whoever's kid it is can take care of her. I'm not the father of her child!"
With that, I stormed into the bedroom without looking back.
"Vivienne! When did you become so bitter and nasty! Do you have any compassion at all? You've been through a miscarriage yourself, and now you're yelling at Sarah like this. Are you even a woman!?"
A glass shattered at my feet, accompanied by Kellan's furious outburst.I once had a child with Kellan, but due to a car accident, I miscarried.
The wounds in my heart hadn't fully healed, and today Kellan ripped them open again.
It's a lie to say it doesn't hurt, but he never asked if I was in pain. Now he wants me to take care of another woman.
