Chapter 2

"Continue, he won't disrupt things now."

A bitter smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.

She probably didn't realize that Brady, with his back to her, had just switched to live ammunition.

After my sister Nora and I lost our parents, we relied on each other and went to an orphanage.

Once, Nora disobeyed me and mischievously climbed over the wall to play outside, but she was paralyzed when she touched the high-voltage electric fence.

In a moment of panic, I reached out to pull her away and was also struck by the powerful electric current.

Everyone around was too afraid to approach, except for Vera who happened to pass by. Like a goddess descending from the heavens, she saved my sister and me.

"Thank you, big sis... After this, I... want to be... a firefighter like you. So cool!"

"I'm not a firefighter, I'm a mercenary. Don't follow my path. Study hard and stay on the right track."

My sister and I tried hard to memorize Vera's face. My sister vowed to follow her, while I secretly vowed to marry her.

Although I always knew that Brady held a special place in her heart...

I still believed that true love could move her. I spent 7 years as Vera's devoted admirer, finally becoming her husband.

The scene before me, with her embracing Brady and teaching him how to shoot, filled my heart with intense jealousy.

She used to teach me the same way, though I never really needed her instruction. My dad is a world-class hitman, and my sister and I grew up surrounded by his craft. Our marksmanship isn't too shabby either.

For years, I haven't touched a gun, silently following her instead. When she's injured, I'm the one who bandages her wounds.

When necessary, I even take knives and bullets for her, shielding her with my body.

The last time, I was actually the one who saved her. She was ambushed and lost consciousness, but when she woke up, Brady was by her side. He took credit for my heroics.

It was only because Brady's father is a high-ranking official in their organization. He promised that if I let Brady take the credit, Vera would receive the best medical care.

I'm not interested in worldly fame or fortune, so I agreed immediately, not wanting to delay her treatment.

To stay close to her, to show my gratitude, I've always hidden my true abilities.

When she woke up and found that Brady had returned, I ceased to exist in her eyes.

I was so stupid. I never imagined that one day, her gun would be pointed at me.

I closed my eyes in despair.

My sister is still in her hands. I have to hold on.

As my consciousness fades, I hear inappropriate sounds of passion.

I force my eyes open to see the two of them locked in an intense kiss.

"Zephyr, don't get the wrong idea. I'm just helping Brady improve his shooting focus.""You also don't need to act so hurt, Brady is using an air gun, it won't actually harm anyone."

Brady had already taken off half his clothes, his shoulders bare, still bearing traces of Vera.

I was too weak to respond, only praying for this to end quickly.

At least my heart hadn't been shot, I was still alive.

My clothes were largely stained with blood, the bullet holes clearly visible, deep and large.

Brady grumbled with dissatisfaction: "I don't dare to shoot anymore, Zephyr probably doesn't want to be a target, he's even coughing up blood in protest."

"My aim is very accurate, I didn't even hit him, yet he's being so dramatic..."

Vera gently stroked his head, soothing him: "Don't worry, you're fine."

Another shot rang out, luckily it went wide, the wooden board beside me exploded with a "bang".

Large pieces of wood flew rapidly towards my chest,

The intense, dull pain clearly reminded me that at least three ribs were broken!

I started to struggle and beg again: "Darling, my chest hurts so bad, I might have broken quite a few ribs, I need to go to the hospital."

A flash of panic crossed Vera's eyes, she rose to intervene, but Brady held her back.
