Rune looked at his interface again. After he had leveled up to Jade Body Level cultivator, slots for specific physical attributes had disappeared. Only a slot saying compounding remained. He had no idea of what it meant. And he wasn't going to ask the system anytime soon, not after the dragon had humiliated him in front of that tortoise!
Moreover, his runecraft attribute had leveled up to the compound level. The pinnacle of runecraft in this world.
Normally, a Runist would reach Compound Runecraft level after they had entered the Soul Realm. Which was beyond most people. Let alone the difficult of studying runecraft!
Don't go too far. Rune silently told the little cub, Grey. He didn't want her to wander away from him.
Okay Rune. So what is it like where humans live. Grey curiously asked as she trotted beside Rune.
Not good. Most eople are cruel. Not all of them though. There are some who are kind at heart, but it doesn't mean they will not kill you if you offend them. He said the last words thinking of Sigrid. He really missed her company.
Rune, I smell humans ahead , two on either side of the road on the next bend. One is hiding on the other side of that rock before the bend.
Rune wasn't surprised at how Grey knew all this. He had grown accustomed to it by now. Ever since they began their journey, Grey had saved him a lot of trouble. Avoiding conduct whenever possible and fighting whenever necessary.
Her soul sense was far much superior to his regardless of their age differences. Only time will tell what her other abilities will be when she had fully evolved.
There was no time to make a detour. They had already been noticed because a full bearded, belly man stood in the middle of the road playing with his battle axe like nothing was amiss in the world.
" Hello there, I'm Marcus. How should I refer to you young Sir" the man's booming voice echoed in the surroundings.
" You can call me Rune if you will please"
" That's a fine name, and where did you say you got that fine fellow besides yah" the man asked with greedy eyes.
"I didn't say, will you let me pass? I have a long way to go" Rune wasn't in the least intimidated by this rogue regardless of their age difference.
The man roared as he laughed. " Did you hear that! he said he didn't say"
His eyes turned cold and frosty as he looked at the young boy in front of him.
" Today is your unlucky day kid, I will let you pass if you remove that cloak you are wearing, the sword, its scabbard on your waist and the wolf cub beside you"
" And if I refuse?"
Bam!
Before the man had the chance to respond, he was send flying by Rune's kick to the stomach.
His comrades were slow in retaliation. Rune didn't waste any time. He pounced on those on the left and took out the archer before he could let fly his arrow.
The remaining two hesitated fo a moment before turning tail and fled with their lives. Their lives were more important than comradeship it seems!
Rune relieved the archer of his clothes and put them on. They were oversized but they will have to do for now.
In no time, with no further unfortunate encounters, he reached the main road to the City of Corvania.
He blended with the others who were making their way to the city. Here and there, he encountered carts laden to the brim with fruits, vegetables and other kinds of farm produce heading to the city.
They joined the queue into the city. Guards adorned in plate armour stood attentively at the city wall gate. Some searched those entering, from carts to people, none was an exception.
Rune passed through without much hastle. After answering a few formality questions of who he was, what he was in Carvonia for and where he was coming from, he was let in.
He held grey in his hands as he moved deeper into the city. He did not stand out much because beasts companions were common among the people, from nobles to peasants.
The only difference was that peasants rarely persued cultivation while nobles made sure them and their descendants cultivated as far as their resources allowed.
Carvonia was divided into four sections, the slums, the lower class, the middle class and the high class regions.
The high class is where the Duke and his family resided. The other parties included the high end merchants, the retired army officers and generals and some who could afford to buy houses in this region for some other reason.
The middle class is where most people with money resided, the region is more of a commercial region than a residential. Every house usually has a shop upfront and the living area at the back or upstairs, all depended on the preferences of the owner.
Following the middle class came the lower class, this is where most peasants lived.
Then came the slums, the worst part of the city. This was the region with the most poor people Carvonia could offer. If there's one word that could vividly describe and paint a perfect picture of the slums, it is Criminology.
