Chapter 18

Mira stepped forward, her heels clicking softly against the marble floor, the sound echoing in the now eerily silent banquet hall. Every pair of eyes in the room fixated on her and the mysterious girl who had appeared out of nowhere. The whispers that had been circulating moments ago quieted as curiosity took over. No one knew who the platinum-haired girl was, nor why Mira, the cherished daughter of the Quinn family, was approaching her with such familiarity.

Yet, Mira didn't care about the stares, nor the hushed murmurs of the guests speculating about the situation. Her mind was solely focused on the girl before her. The girl with long platinum hair and those glowing green eyes—eyes that held an abyss of emotions carefully concealed beneath a cold and impassive exterior.

Mira's heart pounded against her ribs, but her face remained calm, composed. Slowly, deliberately, she inhaled before speaking.

"You are here."

She spoke in fluent Russian, a language only the two of them shared in a way no one else could understand. It wasn't just about the words—it was a secret code, a connection that ran deeper than anyone in this room could ever comprehend.

Athasia's eyes widened, just barely, before narrowing into slits. Mira saw the subtle shift in her demeanor—the way her muscles tensed ever so slightly, the way her fingers twitched, almost as if she was restraining herself.

For a moment, the girl before her remained silent, calculating, assessing. Then, finally, she spoke.

"You—"

The word barely left her lips before Mira took another step forward, closing the distance between them. Her voice was quieter this time, but no less firm, the weight of her emotions pressing into every syllable.

"I have to know if you are my Athasia."

Silence fell upon them, thick and suffocating. The world around them faded, the banquet hall and the prying eyes of the elite nothing more than a blur in the background.

Athasia didn't move, didn't blink, but Mira could feel the weight of her gaze, sharp and searching. They stood there, frozen in time, just staring at each other, two souls bound by a past drenched in blood and an unspoken longing for something more.
