The Liquor worm, channeling Flower Wine Monk's main character willpower, invaded Fang Yuan's aperture, trying to pull a sneaky one.

The willpower was dropping down to the primeval sea, like a meteor shower. The sea was doing the most, creating tidal waves. Fang Yuan's willpower was like, "nah, we ain't having that," sending primeval essence up, forming a tsunami to block the worm's attack.

Just as they were about to clash like a boss fight in a PvP arena, a faint Gu worm image appeared in the loading screen between them.

A cicada, fam. Not a big one, like, if the Moonlight Gu was a blue crystal moon necklace, this cicada was a hand-crafted wooden and leaf charm, made by a pro artisan.

It had a brownish-yellow head and body, with tree ring textures, like it's been living rent-free in a forest for centuries. On its back were wide, see-through wings, like stacked leaves. The wings had that net-vein aesthetic, with a central stem and branching veins, giving off major "organic design" vibes.

It just woke up from a power nap. Like a sleeping dragon, it was triggered by an uninvited guest.

Straight-up offended, the Spring Autumn Cicada dropped an aura, both chill and OP. It was like the Milky Way just went live, rolling in with massive waves, ready to sweep mountains and turn deserts into lakes.

The primeval sea was doing the most, like after a thunderstorm just dropped a surprise album. Then, the Spring Autumn Cicada's aura hit the sea, like a "delete all" command.

Fang Yuan heard a buzz, like a notification from the universe. The sea went completely silent, like a Discord server after a ban wave. The aura repressed the entire sea, like an invisible force field. The sea's surface was smooth AF, no waves, like a perfectly filtered selfie. It was like a crumpled piece of paper getting ironed by a god-tier laundry service.

This was straight-up OP, like a pay-to-win cheat code.

Fang Yuan felt a pressure, like an invisible mountain just landed on his chest. He felt like Sun Wukong getting pinned by the Five Elements Mountain, unable to even twitch a pixel of essence.

However, despite the major lag, he was lowkey hyped, like he just found a secret loot box.

"Wait, the Spring Autumn Cicada actually respawned with me?! So it's not a one-and-done Gu, it's a reusable asset, that's a W."

The Spring Autumn Cicada was a Rank 6 legendary, Fang Yuan's first and last Rank 6 drop in his previous playthrough. It took him a hardcore grind and thirty years of crafting to get it.

But right after he unlocked it, the Alpha faction raid boss squad rolled up and clapped him.

After respawning, Fang Yuan thought the cicada was permadeath. But it was just AFK, chilling inside him.

Time traveling five centuries drained its energy bar. It was so low-tier, even Fang Yuan couldn't ping it. It only popped up now because his aperture was getting griefed; the Liquor worm's willpower was its alarm clock.

It was weak, like, dial-up internet weak.

In Fang Yuan's flashbacks, the cicada was glowing, its body like a polished hardwood floor, its wings vibrant green, like fresh leaf textures.

Now, it was giving off major "deathly chill" energy, its body rough and dim, like a dead tree log. Its wings were yellow and withered, like autumn leaves after a drought.

Fang Yuan was feeling a mix of "sadge" and "poggers." Sadge because the cicada was on life support, poggers because it was so nerfed.

If it was still OP, he'd be in a whole world of trouble!

A Gu Master and their Gu should be a balanced duo, ideally same-tier, like matching skins.

A Rank 1 Gu Master should rock a Rank 1 Gu—that's the meta. Lower-tier Gu? That's like a gym bro using a toothpick, low DPS. Higher-tier Gu? That's like a Pokemon trainer with not enough badges to make it obey them. 

The Spring Autumn Cicada was Rank 6, and Fang Yuan was Rank 1. It's like a mountain vs. a squirrel. If the squirrel tried to yeet the mountain, it'd get squashed, no cap.

If the cicada was at full power, Fang Yuan's aperture would go boom, like a phone battery on 1%.

Lucky for him, it was nerfed, so his aperture could handle the lag.

"I skipped the Moonlight Gu grind, went on a whole side quest for the Liquor worm, thinking it'd be my vital Gu. But I've had a vital Gu this whole time, the Spring Autumn Cicada's been lurking in my inventory!" Fang Yuan was feeling all the feels, sensing that deep connection.

The vital Gu is the first Gu you craft, it's a game-changer, shaping your whole build.

A good vital Gu is a smooth leveling experience, like playing on easy mode. A bad one? It's a perma-stall, letting other players speedrun past you. Plus, it's the difference between a clutch win and a total wipe in a boss fight.

Fang Yuan knew the drill, which is why he hard passed on the village's basic Moonlight Gu starter pack. He went on a whole side quest to grind for the Liquor worm, thinking it was the meta.

In his previous run, the Liquor worm was a god-tier pick for a Rank 1 noob. The Moonlight Gu was just "mid."

But life's a chaotic server, you never know what kinda loot drops are coming next.

Fang Yuan had crafted the Spring Autumn Cicada in his previous playthrough. After respawning, it was AFK, but their connection was still pinging. It was actually stronger and more glitched than before, just hidden by the cicada's low-battery mode.

The Spring Autumn Cicada was, technically, his first crafted item. Not from this run, but from 500 years of grinding.
