Alex glanced at the backpack in his arms and then covered the area where blood was seeping through, realizing that things were not looking good.
"There's nothing valuable in this backpack, but I can't give it to you."
"Nothing valuable? Then open it and let us take a look!"
Alex observed the homeless men who were robbing him and felt no panic.
All three of them were just ordinary people. If he wanted to escape, they definitely couldn't stop him.
He was contemplating which direction to break through and flee when one of them said sarcastically,
"Hey guy, running so fast down this alley like you're escaping from something must mean you have some precious stash in that bag. "
"How about this, we're not greedy. You keep a quarter, and give us three-quarters. We'll help keep your secret. How does that sound?"
Another one echoed, "Yeah, just hand over the stuff. We'll pretend we never saw you. Otherwise, you'll get a beating. Even if you manage to run away, we can go to the police and rat you out!"
"When you turned into the alley, the streetlight caught your face. We've got your looks memorized!"
Upon hearing this, Alex stopped in his tracks, ready to flee.
These three had seen his face, which meant there was a risk of exposure.
If they really went to the police and reported him, all his efforts would be in vain.
Suddenly, a killer instinct surged within him.
The murderous glint in his eyes was immediately captured by the seasoned criminals who had spent years navigating the gray area.
"Boss, this guy's eyes look like he wants to kill someone!"
"Kill? Heh, just a poor guy like him? Since he's got murder on his mind, it means the treasure in that bag is priceless! Then let's kill him and take the fortune ourselves!"
Saying that, the three of them each pulled out a knife and stabbed towards Alex.
Alex had never killed anyone before, and he had just had the thought cross his mind.
For Alex, who had lived an ordinary life in a civilized society, killing was not an easy task.
He hadn't made up his mind to kill yet, but now he was cornered by the three criminals.
"It's fate that you're going to die. Don't blame me."
"The kid's pretty arrogant! Kill him!"
The three of them watched as Alex had nowhere to dodge and would surely be stabbed by their blades, feeling triumphant.
However, in his eyes, their attacks were as feeble as those of three-year-olds.
Alex threw a straight punch quickly towards the face of the nearest man.
As his knuckles touched the man's nose, he clearly felt the crisp sound of bones breaking.
But the sound of breaking didn't stop. The man's face continued to cave in along with Alex's fist, with the bones cracking consecutively.
Finally, blood oozed out from his somewhat flattened nose and mouth.
"Thunk!"
The man was punched by Alex so hard that he was lifted off his feet, flying backward for seven or eight meters before landing and rolling a few steps on the stone pavement before stopping.
Alex's keen senses allowed him to witness the entire process of his killing blow in vivid detail, and his heart swelled with excitement.
He had killed someone!
The face, now unrecognizable, was directed at Alex and the other two criminals with a strange expression.
Seeing this scene, the other two trembled with fear, immediately realizing that they had provoked a Sequence Ability Holder!
But fear was one thing, and retreating was another.
Both of them were fugitives with murder cases on their backs, and they knew very well that at this point, it was a matter of life or death, and pleading for mercy was useless!
The only way to survive was to kill Alex!
The two men ran towards Alex even more frantically, wielding their knives and intending to stab him to death.
Alex retreated with his left leg and kicked out with his right, aiming for the waist of one of them.
More crisp sounds of bones breaking echoed along his shin.
The man was folded in half at an odd angle, swinging through the air attached only by skin and flesh as Alex retracted his leg.
When Alex withdrew his leg, the man, now in two pieces, collided with the last remaining assailant who had intended to kill Alex, causing both of them to roll backward for several circles.
Without hesitation, Alex leaped forward and approached the man who was now dazed. With another punch raised, the man cried out,
"Spare my life! I'll give you all the money I have..."
At this point, the instinct to survive made the criminal beg for mercy.
However, Alex didn't give him the chance to continue speaking. This punch landed on the side of his face, crushing his skull into pieces.
"Killing you means the money on you will be mine anyway."
After killing the three men consecutively, the murderous intent in Alex's heart gradually faded, quickly replaced by an inexplicable emptiness.
He sighed helplessly.
Never had he imagined that he would kill someone.
But it was for self-defense, so there was nothing more to say.
Moreover, Alex had a feeling that killing these three men was not the end but rather the beginning.
The beginning of him getting accustomed to taking lives.
Alex silently cheered himself up in his heart, calming his body that was trembling with nervousness due to the killing.
After regaining his composure, Alex didn't leave immediately. He remembered that some sequences in the Camp of God-Slayers could read the last memories of the deceased.
To prevent his own exposure, he wrapped his fist with one of the men's clothes and crushed all three of their skulls.
He then cleaned up the scene, meticulously wiped away the bloodstains, took all the money from their pockets, and stuffed the three corpses into an abandoned, dark warehouse.
He lit a fire, burning the three corpses along with his bloody coat.
He did this to avoid any Sequence Ability Holder who might track him through the scent left on the corpses.
Although he wasn't sure if there was such an ability, he felt it was highly possible.
The reason he chose this warehouse was to prevent anyone from tracing him by scent.
He noticed that the road leading to the warehouse was muddy, with numerous different footprints, indicating that many people had been there, which could confuse any scent trail.
To avoid leaving his own footprints on the muddy road, he cautiously leaped over the stones with his strength and agility, leaving no trace behind.
"I hope everything will be alright."
Worried that the flames might attract attention, Alex fled the scene at full speed after ensuring the fire engulfed the bodies.
This time, he ran with all his might, like a madman.
If anyone saw him in this alley, they might think that what just passed was not a person but a speeding car.
Alex kept running for more than half an hour before returning to the main road.
His heart was still a little excited from killing someone for the first time.
But he was no longer panicked, and his gaze had become even more determined.
"I regret their deaths, but that's all."
