Chapter 115 The Dash for the Ancient Artifact

The thrill of victory still lingered in the air,a sweet perfume of success.

But Lucas Voss, the invincible tycoon of the city, wasn't one to rest on his laurels.

A new game was afoot,a new treasure to be claimed.

An ancient relic, whispered to hold unimaginable power, beckoned him forward.

A cryptic invitation, delivered via a sleek, black drone, had landed on his desk, its digital display shimmering with the coordinates of a remote, uncharted island.

The message was simple:Find me.

The challenge, however, promised to be anything but.

Accompanied by his ever-loyal aide and confidante,Lily, and the formidable Athena, his Valkyrie protector,Lucas boarded his private jet,a sleek, silver bird that sliced through the sky like a hot knife through butter.

The island, shrouded in mist and mystery, materialized from the ocean haze like a phantom.

As the jet touched down on a makeshift landing strip, the air crackled with a palpable sense of anticipation.

Even before the engines fully wound down,Lucas's keen eyes scanned the surrounding terrain.

Several camps, each bearing the distinct markings of different factions, were already established.

The race for the ancient relic had clearly begun.

Lily, ever mindful of her master's safety, voiced her concern.

"Mr.Voss, perhaps we should proceed with caution. These groups..."

"Relax,Lily,"Lucas cut her off with a wink,a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Where's the fun in caution?"He patted the sleek,custom-made briefcase resting at his feet.

"Besides,I came prepared."

Athena, her hand instinctively resting on the hilt of her sword, remained silent, her sharp gaze fixed on the surrounding camps.

Her warrior instincts screamed danger, but she trusted Lucas's judgment, even when it seemed…unorthodox.

Instead of storming the suspected location of the relic,as most treasure hunters would,Lucas opted for a different approach.

"Lily,Athena, you two go find a good vantage point and keep an eye on things.I'm going to…socialize."

A flicker of confusion crossed Lily's face.

"Socialize,sir?"

"Indeed,"Lucas replied with a sly grin.

"Information is the greatest weapon,Lily.Let's see what these other treasure hunters know."

Leaving his companions hidden amongst the dense foliage,Lucas strolled casually towards the nearest camp.

He put on an air of harmless curiosity, the perfect mask for the wolf beneath.

His casual demeanor, coupled with his disarming charm, quickly gained him access to the inner circle of several of the groups.

He feigned ignorance about the relic, subtly prompting the others to reveal their knowledge, motivations, and, most importantly, their weaknesses.

He learned that one of the factions was led by the notorious Isabella Nightshade,a name that sent shivers down the spines of even the most hardened criminals.

Nightshade was known for her ruthlessness and her uncanny ability to acquire anything she desired, regardless of the cost.

This information sobered Lucas.

He realized he was dealing with a formidable opponent, one who wouldn't hesitate to eliminate any competition.

As the various factions prepared to make their move towards the suspected location of the relic,a massive stone door, intricately carved with ancient symbols, barred their way.

A complex locking mechanism, unlike anything they had ever seen, sealed the entrance.

The treasure hunters, armed with their high-tech gadgets and ancient maps, found themselves stumped.

Frustration filled the air, thick and suffocating.

Lucas,however,simply chuckled.

While others scratched their heads and cursed their luck,he pulled out his satellite phone.

A quick call and a hefty sum of money later,a wizened old man, renowned as the greatest locksmith in the region, materialized beside him.

"This thing's a piece of cake,"the old man muttered, his nimble fingers dancing over the intricate mechanism.

With a series of clicks and whirs, the ancient lock sprang open, the stone door groaning as it swung inward, revealing a dark, echoing passage.

The other treasure hunters stared in disbelief.

Their jaws dropped, their eyes wide with a mixture of awe and resentment.

They had spent weeks, months even, researching and preparing for this expedition, only to be outdone by a casual, seemingly carefree tycoon who seemed more interested in socializing than treasure hunting.

Lucas, with a wink and a playful shrug, stepped through the open doorway, leaving the dumbfounded treasure hunters in his dust.

He turned back to Lily and Athena,a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Ladies,after you."

Lily, shaking her head in amusement, followed,Athena close behind, her hand still resting on her sword hilt, her senses on high alert.

The darkness swallowed them whole, the heavy stone door closing behind them with a resounding boom.

From outside, the frustrated whispers of the other treasure hunters could be heard, their plans thwarted, their hopes dashed.

Inside, the air was thick with the scent of ancient dust and untold secrets.

Lucas,a small flashlight illuminating the path ahead, grinned.

This was more like it.

"Well,"he said, his voice echoing in the cavernous space,"let the real treasure hunt begin.

"He paused, tilting his head as a strange sound echoed from the depths of the passage.

A faint scraping sound, like metal on stone.

He exchanged a look with Athena.

"I'll go check it out."Athena whispered, her hand tightening on her sword hilt.

"Be careful,"Lucas replied, his eyes narrowing,"something tells me Isabella Nightshade isn't one to give up so easily."

He pulled out a small, silver device from his pocket.

"Lily, stay here and keep this channel open."

Lily nodded,taking the device.

She watched as Athena disappeared into the darkness, her heart pounding in her chest.

Suddenly,a voice crackled over the comms device in her hand.

It was Athena, her voice strained with urgency.

"Mr.Voss…"

The roar of Max's custom-built,diamond-encrusted helicopter sliced through the humid jungle air.

Below,a sea of emerald green stretched as far as the eye could see, broken only by the occasional glint of a winding river.

He glanced at the holographic map projected from his wristwatch,a smirk playing on his lips.

"Looks like we're the first ones here,Lily."

Lily, perched gracefully beside him,her crimson dress a stark contrast to the helicopter's plush leather interior, offered a small, knowing smile.

"As expected,Master Max.No one can outpace the Voss Falcon."

The Voss Falcon,a marvel of engineering and a testament to Max's extravagant tastes, descended towards a clearing, its downdraft flattening the surrounding vegetation.

As the dust settled,Grace and Daisy emerged from the helicopter's belly, their eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Whoa!Check out this place!"Daisy exclaimed, her voice buzzing with energy.

She twirled around, taking in the ancient ruins peeking through the dense foliage.

Grace, ever the pragmatist, tapped away on her tablet.

"Satellite confirms the artifact's energy signature is emanating from within the central temple. But there are multiple energy spikes surrounding the area. We're not alone."

Max chuckled,stretching his limbs.

"A little competition never hurt anyone.Besides,"he added,a glint of mischief in his eyes,"it wouldn't be fun otherwise."

Suddenly,a volley of darts whizzed past them, embedding themselves in a nearby tree.

The darts,tipped with a shimmering,unknown substance,sizzled ominously.

Athena, clad in her signature battle armor, materialized beside Max,her hand already on the hilt of her energy sword.

"Hostiles inbound,Master Max.Multiple targets,closing fast."

From the shadows of the jungle, figures emerged, clad in black tactical gear.

They moved with a practiced efficiency, their weapons trained on Max and his companions.

"Isabella Nightshade's goons,"Max muttered,recognizing their insignia.

"Persistent,aren't they?"

Before anyone could react,a whip-like tendril of dark energy lashed out from the jungle, wrapping around Lily's ankle.

She gasped,struggling against its grip.

"Lily!"Max roared, his playful demeanor vanishing in an instant.

His eyes hardened, and an aura of power radiated from him, chilling the very air.

"You dare lay a finger on my people,Nightshade? You'll regret this."He snapped his fingers, and from the Voss Falcon's undercarriage,a swarm of miniature drones, armed with miniature laser cannons, emerged, buzzing menacingly.

The game had officially begun.
