Chapter 9

Garrison's face suddenly turned pale.

The hand encircling my waist slowly loosened.

There was no longer any reason for us to reconcile.

"Chase... it's all my fault."

Tears slid down from the corner of his eyes, but to me, it was just an act of feigned sincerity.

"Your well-being is of no concern to me," I said, taking a deep breath and reining in my emotions.

"To be fair, without you saving my father, he might not have even had the chance to be in a vegetative state. But your intentions were impure, making you indirectly responsible for attempted murder."

"From now on, we'll go our separate ways. My father and I have no connection to you anymore, so there's no need for your fake sentiments."

I tried to push Garrison away,

but his emotions suddenly flared up, and he gripped my wrist.

"No! We're husband and wife, how can we not be connected? We'll always be family."

"I've been sincere to you from the beginning to the end, I can prove it, even at the cost of my life!"
