I just put on my headphones when Faye called. Irritated, I got up to answer, only to be met with a barrage of accusations right off the bat.
"What are you doing? Mom's starving and you haven't made dinner yet. Why didn't you take your brother and sister to school? Don't you know it's Monday?"
"So what if it's Monday? I don't have work or school, why should I get up so early?" I asked her, amused.
Seemingly caught off guard by my defiant attitude, Faye's tone suddenly turned icy. She said through gritted teeth, "Stop messing around or I'll get angry. Go do what you're supposed to do. We'll talk about this when I get home tonight."
"Don't bother. I won't be doing any of that stuff anymore. Just sign the divorce papers already. Let's keep this civilized."
With that, I got up and went to my room to grab my suitcase, completely ignoring my mother-in-law's commands and scolding from her bed.
"You really want to divorce me? Think it through. This isn't child's play."
