Chapter 5

In the eyes of Chase, my actions were nothing more than a ploy to grab his attention.

I struggled to prop myself up on the sofa.

The slap he'd just given me left my cheek stinging with pain.

"Chase, I don't think you misunderstood what I said."

"If you like her so much, why don't you just break up with me? Why make her the other woman?"

Though a smile played on my lips, my heart ached terribly.

I loved him, loved him deeply.

But that didn't mean I couldn't be hurt, couldn't be sad.

Especially since Chase had done something so awful to me this time.

Yet he didn't feel the slightest bit of remorse.

"Verona, you want to break up with me over such a small thing?"

He looked at me accusingly, as if I had done something to hurt him.

Seeing my silence, his expression turned ugly.

Finally, he spoke through gritted teeth.

"Fine... great! Don't come begging me later."

He thought that by ignoring me for a few days, I'd come running back to make up.
