From Overtime to Another World

"If you don't fix that system bug by tonight, you're fired."

Cris Reyes stared at the glowing screen in front of him, the harsh white light making his tired eyes burn. He had been working overtime for weeks, fixing endless errors in the company's security system.

His boss had no sympathy, only deadlines. But what could he do? He needed this job.

His fingers moved mechanically across the keyboard, coding, debugging, and testing. The hours ticked by, his body growing heavy, his vision blurring. The last thing he remembered was the glaring screen and the overwhelming exhaustion pulling him into darkness.

Then, nothing.

A void.

"Is this what death feels like?" Leo thought as he drifted in the endless abyss. He felt weightless, surrounded by silence. No pain, no sound—just pure emptiness. "So, I died from overwork? Just like that?"

Before he could process the absurdity of his fate, a sudden pull yanked him from the void.

[System Booting…]

Cris gasped as his body jerked awake, lungs filling with unfamiliar air. His fingers scraped against the cold, rough floor.

He pushed himself up, heart pounding. The place was dimly lit, the air heavy with dust.

"Where... am I?" he muttered, voice hoarse. He stumbled to his feet, looking around. Rusted metal walls, cracked monitors, and scattered debris—it looked like some kind of abandoned shelter.

His head throbbed as he tried to recall what had happened.

Then, he caught his reflection in a broken glass panel.

The face staring back at him wasn't his.

Sharp blue eyes, tousled brown hair, and a strong, battle-worn face. He looked younger, fitter, and… bulkier? He ran his hands over the armored vest strapped to his chest.

A large gauntlet was attached to his left forearm, and a high-tech utility belt hung from his waist.

"What the hell…?"

[Welcome, User! You have been chosen as the new Administrator of Shelter 117.]

A glowing blue screen suddenly popped up in front of him, filled with text. His breath hitched.

[Current Status: Shelter in Ruins. Mission: Renovate and Defend!]

Cris blinked.

A system?

Before he could react, another message flashed.

[New Administrator detected! Beginning integration...]

Pain shot through his skull. Memories—not his own—flooded his mind. Battles, survival tactics, blueprints for advanced technology, and the history of a world ravaged by disasters and war.

He clutched his head as the overwhelming knowledge forced itself into his brain.

And just like that, he understood.

This world was on the brink of collapse. Resources were scarce, monsters roamed outside, and shelters were humanity's last hope.

And he was now in charge of one.

Leo exhaled, forcing himself to stand tall. His tired, overworked life was gone. No more deadlines, no more office politics.

This was his new reality.

A world of disaster.

And he was going to survive.
