The Battle for Shelter 117

Barbr stepped forward, his visor reflecting the dim light. He raised a hand, signaling his men to halt.

"We're not here to fight," he said, his voice calm yet firm. "I'm Barbr. I'm here to talk. Just hand over the girl, and we'll leave in peace."

Chris narrowed his eyes. "Not happening."

Before another word could be exchanged—

CLANG!

An axe swung toward Chris's neck in a deadly arc. He barely raised his sword in time, blocking the powerful strike. The impact sent vibrations through his arms.

Chris gritted his teeth. "Tch… so much for peace."

Barbr grinned, pressing his blade against Chris's. "Did you really think I'd just leave? When you say that No… I'm taking this shelter. Attack!"

His men charged forward, weapons drawn.

Chris moved instantly, his sword meeting the first attacker's strike. Sparks flew as steel clashed against steel. He dodged, countered, and struck back with precision.

Then—

BANG!

Gunfire rang out. Barbr's men stumbled back as the shelter's mounted turrets suddenly came to life.

Barbr's eyes widened in shock. "What the—?! Those weren't there before!"

Moments Earlier…

Before stepping outside, Chris had accessed the shelter's blueprint. Navigating through the system, he go to the Gate Module Upgrade.

There, an option for automated defense turrets appeared.

His excitement faded as he saw the cost—2 SM.

"Damn… I don't have enough."

Just then, Trixie's voice chimed in.

"Master, if you need SM, you can barter with the system."

Chris frowned. "Barter? With what?"

"Resources. There's a ton of food in the storage room."

Chris quickly. True enough, he had an abundance of food supplies.

"The rewards for this quest have a special reward… so i needed those turrets now."

Without hesitation, he exchanged some food for 3 SM, enough to purchase the turret upgrade.

Back to the Present…

The newly-installed turrets roared to life, forcing Barbr's men to retreat.

Barbr cursed under his breath. "This shelter's more equipped than we thought… We're falling back."

But Chris vanished.

Shadow Step—Activated.

In the blink of an eye, he appeared behind Barbr.

Barbr barely had time to react before a powerful sweep kick sent him crashing to the ground.

Meanwhile, the girl's mantis joined the fight, leaping to her side. The two moved in sync, cutting through enemies with precision.

Barbr gritted his teeth as his forces dwindled. "Tch…! We're losing numbers. Retreat, for now!"

The battle wasn't over.

But for now—

Shelter 117 stood undefeated.
